EVANGELISTIC DEPARTMENT (Continued from page 161) F rench Cadets H ear th e Message We wish our readers could have been present w ith us on a large F rench train ing ship recently when we addressed 75 young cadets, in an officers’ train ing class. They will all be assigned to other vessels as soon as graduation is over. This p articu lar vessel visits us twice a year bu t car ries cadets on only one trip. On her previous visit we had tak en pictures of the boat as well as p a rt of the crew. When on board this tim e w ith two helpers in th e F rench language, we presented the principal of the school w ith the photographs and then requested perm ission to speak to the men. He sent- us to the Captain, who gladly granted the perm ission, bu t it was necessary for us to w ait an hour un til the men retu rn ed from “ shore leave.” This waiting tim e was spent among th e crew, who lived forward, and resulted in fru it for th e Master. R eturning to th e dining hall, used as a class room, we were greeted by these 75 young menS-fine, intelligent, clean, bu t needing th e Gospel. The meal over and tables cleared, they were anxious to know w hat was coming. We greeted them w ith rem iniscences of our own visit to th e ir capital, Paris, stating we had retu rn ed w ith souve nirs, and were going to give each a souvenir as soon as th e m eeting was over. As they all understood English, our introduction and first message was in English, followed by two in th e ir own language, w ith invitations to accept Christ, together w ith answers to th eir questions. A fter th e meeting we met many of them personally, and heard them say it was the first real P rotes ta n t Gospel message' 'th ey had ever heard. When we left them , all had copies of the Word of God and all were happy. The happiness of both officers and men assured us of ano th er opportun ity w ith a new group next year when th è vessel retu rn s.
