CHOOSING PAINT
How to Revive a tired garden shed
Make it work
Sadolin woodstains can be mixed to a huge range of colours. For a stand-out look pick a shade that reflects your personality ● Check the condition of the shed first before painting. Any traces of mould, algae or green on the timber must be treated and cleaned off. “We added a new corrugated roof, replaced rotting timbers and treated remaining panels with a wood hardener. We also used a wood filler to plug holes and knots,” says Saara. ● Using a roller, apply two coats of Sadolin Superdec, allowing three to four hours drying time between each coat. “Superdec is incredibly durable, with 10 years proven durability against the elements, and is self-priming so doesn’t need an undercoat,” says Saara. “We choose a peachy pink shade (X0571D) which we had custom mixed.” ● If the shed has been previously oiled or painted, do a test area first to check for any adhesion issues. ● Complement the look by painting any surrounding fencing or decking. Clean first with warm water and a mild detergent and allow to dry. “For the deck we used a purpley-pink Sadolin Beautiflex (RAL 4008) and offset it with a blue trim in Sadolin Beautiflex (RAL 5021) for added impact,” says Saara.

How to Update your PVCu front door
COLOUR PALETTE
Make it work
Give your home’s façade a new season glow-up and add instant kerb appeal by painting the front door – and surrounding masonry.
● “Getting your prep right is key to the success of this project,” says Bronagh. First remove hardware (letterbox, handle, etc), then clean and degrease the door using sugar soap. Lightly sand with a fine grade paper (180 grit) to provide a key for the paint and wipe clean. ● Using a brush apply a thin coat of Crown Trade PX4 Primer and allow to dry for 24 hours. “I always do a scratch test with my thumbnail to make doubly sure. If it comes off easily, it’s not dry,” says Bronagh. Top with a coat of Crown Trade Fast Flow Quick Dry Undercoat. ● Next apply two to three coats of Fast Flow Quick Dry Satin, Mustard Jar (Crown Moodboards Collection) allowing two to three hours drying between each coat. “Try using a roller for a smooth spray paint finish,” says Bronagh. ● If exterior walls can be painted, power hose first to remove any dirt then prep with Sandtex Fungicidal Wash. Using Sandtex X-Treme X-Posure Masonry Paint (Blue Black) apply two coats with a roller, allowing three to four hours between each coat. The windowsills are painted in Seldom Seen, from the Crown moodboards collection.
