1965 - National Finals for barrel racing held in Dallas, Texas 1966 - National Finals for barrel racing held in Fort Worth, Texas (technically held during the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo at beginning of 1967 but was for the 1966 season) 1967 - GRA Secretary Florence Youree met with Stanley Draper of Oklahoma City and asked him to include barrel racing with the NFR. During that meeting Stanley called Clem McSpadden and they decided to include the women and Draper agreed to put up $1,000 prize money the first year. 1968 - Stanley Draper proposed that the barrel racing be held at the NFR as long as the NFR was in Oklahoma City with a minimum purse of $2,500.

1964 - National Finals for barrel racing held in Dallas, Texas - Ardith Bruce wins the world title and becomes the first barrel racer to win the world going to the left barrel first

Ann Lewis becomes the youngest GRA World Champion at the age of 10.
