1985 - the WPRA Board of Directors refused to approve any PRCA rodeo not offering equal money (as compared to the lowest paying men’s event) to the barrel racing. In the end, 98% of the 601 PRCA approved rodeos met that requirement. WPRA President Jimmie Munroe went to the National Finals Rodeo Committee and asked if the WPRA was able to get a sponsor to pay to get the barrel racing up to equal money of the team roping if they would accept it. They agreed and Purina came on as a sponsor for the barrel racing equal money and the official feed supplier of the National Finals Rodeo.

1985 - On Friday, Dec. 13, 1985 as Charmayne James and Scamper entered the arena, Scamper caught the bridle on the side of the gate causing the Chicago screws to come out. At the first barrel people started to realize what was happening with the broken bridle and by the third barrel, Scamper spit the bit out with the bridle around his neck. The duo won the round and that became an NFR legendary moment.
