MONTANA CIRCUIT: BARRELS continued from page 66

Knight estimates she pulled checks at almost 80 percent of the WPRA Montana Circuit rodeos she entered in 2022. That included wins at Dillon, Plains, Circle and Big Fork and top-four finishes at nine other rodeos. There might be longer road trips for her and Oakley in 2023. “I tell myself I’m going to rodeo more, branch out,” Knight said. “People in my corner supporting me have reached out to tell me, ‘With a horse like that, you have to run him.’ “With a horse like that you have to use him while you can.” With Oakley by her side of course.

MONTANA CIRCUIT: BREAKAWAY continued from page 67

“That horse was tough to figure out,” she said of the nine-year-old brown bay by Ray Jay Boon and out of Fancy Smoke Gal. “We just had to get more consistent with the starts more than anything and with breakaway roping, the start, that’s everything.” Ogren saw progress during the summer but needed some late- summer checks to qualify for the MPRF. The Montana cowgirl teaches roping schools with an emphasis on the mental approach. She follows the “MIT” approach…Most Important Task in her daily life. Ogren also keeps a list of goals in her pocket. One of those included winning the average for the Montana Circuit. The list will have to be updated as she plans her 2023. “That’s the big question, for sure,” Ogren said. “We’ll have to see our schedule and will have to figure out what we’re doing with life. “Winning just gave me a really good feeling and makes you more credible when teaching the schools. It’s nice when you’re work pays off.”
