From the President by Paul Miller, President, Board of Governors
With the near completion of the Oaks Nine bunker project, the entire golf course will have new bunkers and renovated greens. Tom Lipscomb has done a great job managing this project, and our golf course is in good shape and getting better as his tenure continues. Although inclement weather has created a few challenges, the plan is still to have the Oaks open mid-to-late March. The Club’s new golf carts should be arriving in this same time period. There are several events this month at the Club that I’d like to highlight. In addition to our monthly Candlelight Dinner and Mexican Buffet, we have a great wine dinner with Opolo Vineyards on March 10th and the always popular Riedel Wine Glass Seminar on March 22nd. Chef Jorge will also roll out new menus in the Oak Room, the Grille, and both Snack Bars this month. Look for these in the next few weeks. On the Golf side, Thursday Round Up begins on March 23rd and we have several demo days sche - duled throughout March. For our court players, we are starting a new beginners Pickleball clinic on Tuesday evenings and as always, our Tennis and Pickleball socials are ramping up. Information on all these great events and our April Easter Festivities are in this newsletter and on our mobile app.
It is with great optimism that I write my first newsletter article as Seven Oaks’ Board President. I’d like to start by
providing an update on some of the items covered at the February 26th Annual Meeting for those who were not able to attend. We would like to thank everyone who participated in our election and give a special thanks to our Club Secretary, Mr. David Mettler, for overseeing the election process. Four hundred and four (404) equi - ty members voted in the election, a historically large voter turnout for the Club. Please congratulate Mr. Dave Laut, Mr. Mike Pelle, and Mr. Gene Lytle at your earliest convenience on their election to the Board of Governors. I’d also like to acknowledge the Board members who just completed their tenures: Mr. Mike Burton, Mr. Scott Howry, and Mr. Jay Ericsson. The equity members voted in favor of the Mixed Grille expansion and after some preliminary steps, the Board will select a contractor for the project. The Mixed Grille will be moved to the Oak Room during the construction phase, and a portion of the Banquet Room will serve as the Oak Room. The Club’s mem - bers also approved an update to the Club’s bylaws.
I hope to see everyone at the Club soon.

The Seven Oaks Book Club meets each month to discuss books on a reading list which is selected by mutual consent of the Book Club members. All members of SOCC are invited to attend. Our selection for March… The Great Circle by Maggie Shipstead After being rescued as infants from a sinking ocean liner in 1914,
Marian and Jamie Graves are raised by their dissolute uncle in Missoula, Montana. There--after encountering a pair of barn- storming pilots passing through town in beat-up biplanes--Marian commences her lifelong love affair with flight. At fourteen she drops out of school and finds an unex - pected and dangerous patron in a wealt- hy bootlegger who provides a plane and subsidizes her lessons, an arrangement that will haunt her for the rest of her life, even as it allows her to fulfill her destiny: circumnavigating the globe by flying over the North and South Poles.
A century later, Hadley Baxter is cast to play Marian in a film that centers on Marian's disappearance in Antarctica. Vibrant, canny, disgusted with the claustrophobia of Hollywood, Hadley is eager to redefine herself after a romantic film franchise has imprisoned her in the grip of cult celebrity. Her immersion into the character of Marian unfolds, thrillingly, alongside Marian's own story, as the two women's fates--and their hunger for self-determina- tion in vastly different geographies and times--collide. Epic and emotional, meticulously researched and gloriously told, Great Circle is a monumental work of art, and a tremendous leap for- ward for the prodigiously gifted Maggie Shipstead. Our next meeting is Wednesday, March 22nd at 11am Please email Cynthia Bailey at cbailey664@gmail.com to receive information on joining the meeting.
