Resin (Rox y Winterburn) A transparent or semi-solid substance of natural or synthetic origin, often used by artists. Natural resins are derived predominantly from plants, where its use as a secretion is to guard the plant against both insects and disease. Synthetic resins, like epoxy and acrylic, are produced industrially and serve many purposes. It wasn’t until the 20th century that resin became popular among sculptors, who appreciated its durability and relatively low price.
