Lawrence Coulson
We all crave a change of scenery from time to time, and there’s nothing quite as inspiring as nature. Taking us on a much-needed stroll through Britain’s glorious landscape is painter Lawrence Coulson. By accentuating the contrast between darkness and light, the Lincolnshire-based artist has created a sense of mystery. His mastery of colour – which he recently illustrated in an Instagram Live session – is heightened by an incredible attention to detail.
While painting in his purpose-built studio, he works on several pieces at a time and listens to a lot of Gary Numan, Depeche Mode and Nine Inch Nails. He often gets his artwork titles from lyrics sheets and writes them down on scraps of paper. Lawrence says: “The edges of the paintings have become almost lost, which adds depth and a stronger focal point. I’m hoping collectors will engage with two elements: the atmosphere, and my fascination with the British landscape.”
