February 2026
From the BAE
BOMA Metro Detroit,
The symbol of the month of February is a heart. It is after all, the month of Valentines Day. It is with great sadness that a part of the BOMA heart is broken this month as our President Elect and the President of our Foundation recently lost his battle to cancer. Mike Patterson served you, the membership of BOMA Metro Detroit for 6 years. By all accounts, mine included, he was a hardworking, selfless man that cared deeply about the people in his life. He spearheaded BOMA’s scholarship program and was the inspiration to create the BOMA Foundation. His participation in BOMA, his vision and his actionable leadership has and will continue to help people for many years to come. A fitting legacy for a great man. Working to help one another succeed within a shared economic space is what associations are all about. Strong associations thrive because work is shared, carried forward by engaged members and volunteers serving at every level of leadership. As we begin 2026, Trevor Duke
We are also pleased to welcome two new members to the Board of Directors: Jordan Valasek , Farbman Group, and Ian Studders , Friedman Real Estate. Both bring strong dedication and valuable expertise within the commercial real estate industry, and we are excited to have their insight and energy to help shape our future. Beth Anne Beattie has served the membership in several roles over the years, most recently as Director. This year she begins her service to you as an officer of the board with the title of Treasurer / Secretary. Our directors for 2026 are; Star Mosella, Kirk VanMeerbeeck, Gregg Montowski, Bill Gilbert Immediate Past President and Brian Salliotte remains our Governor representing our interests with BOMA International. While the Board of Directors sets the direction of the association, other leaders assist in the advancement of goals and strategies. These are our wonderful committee leaders and members, (see page 8). Another distinct subgroup within BOMA that leads us to success is our Sponsor Partners. Anchored by our Cornerstone Sponsors, sponsor partners bring BOMA SHOPS BOMA to life. Thank you to all of our 2026 Sponsor Partners! has officially received the gavel from Bill Gilbert and now leads our organization as President. We thank Bill for his leadership and service, and we look forward to Trevor’s vision guiding us into the year ahead.
Creating meaningful engagement opportunities requires individuals willing to step up, lead, and invest their time and expertise for the benefit of all. BOMA Metro Detroit is truly blessed to have dedicated, effective leaders who understand that collaboration, service, and shared responsibility are the foundation of a successful organization. Together, we don’t just participate, we build, support and elevate one another..., and we are present for each other in times of need. Rachel and I are thankful for all of you.
In honor of Mike Patterson. A lasting legacy of leadership and service.

As an added benefit for our members, BOMA Metro Detroit began a new partnership with the Michigan Chamber of Commerce in late 2025. You should be receiving the weekly Michigan Chamber News and the weekly MIRS Michigan News and Capital Report. Both of these publications are essential for businesses. If you are not receiving these in your email box, contact us and we will add you to the distribution list. The Chamber legislative partnership is a piece of BOMA's strategy to do more for you. As we begin 2026 we are proud to share that BOMA members are participating in the Chamber's legislative committees keeping a watchful eye on issues that impact Michigan’s commercial real estate business community. Two issues of great importance to BOMA are sweeping elevator regulations and the impact of the Michigan Supreme Court's 2023 decision that lifted protections under the "Open and Obvious" doctrine. BOMA Metro Detroit is part of a statewide coalition of business organizations urging changes to premises liability, (link to letter) and we are actively involved in suppressing the negative impact of over regulation. We are, and we will continue to be vigilant in advocating for our members.
