“ It’s the song that does it,” Kathy said, “ It’s the song and I have it. Now I have it!” All the way home her little feet were skipping. They seemed to make music on the sidewalk. The tune was the sound of slippers on pavement, but the words were, “ Jesus loves me and I love Him back—and that makes music. He has put a new song in my heart and it’s mine!” She wanted to tell Karen about it, but she wouldn’t just yet. She wouldn’t tell anybody yet—not until tomorrow. Tomorow, when Mother and Karen came from their organ les sons—that would be the time. On Monday night Mother got up from the dinner table and went di rectly to the organ. “ I want you to hear the new song I got today,” she told Daddy. It was a lovely song, just about the nicest one Kathy had heard her A LIFE OF For your challenge and inspiration, the editors share this letter received recently. Dear Sir: When Nancy Lou Harter, age 12, was taken in death last April the reaction of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Harter, was so unusual and caused so much comment in this valley that I thought you might like to share this account of it with your readers: Thou W ilt Keep Him in Perfect Peace . . . “How do you explain the strange atti tude of the Harters?" This question came from a doctor who was observing the re action of the parents whose twelve year old daughter, Nancy, had suddenly a n d strangely been taken in death. This ques tion soon became a byword among the residents of this small community as they watched the unusual composure of this couple. Some said they were in shock, others thought it must be the result of some strange religion. Most agreed that the break-down would come eventually. The real explanation is that this family had learned BEFORE their daughter was taken the secret of the abiding, Spirit- filled walk In Christ. They knew how to keep their minds STAYED on Him. This trial in their life made manifest to others that there can be a difference for those who know the work of the Comforter. This was no example of cold, emotion less will power. Rather, it was the warmth, comfort and teal joy which was displayed which people could not understand. One young friend of the deceased was overwhelmed with grief and could not be comforted. Finally, the dead girl's mother was brought in to talk to her. After a few minutes visit, the young girl emerged from the room, dry-eyed and almost jubi lant. She exclaimed, " I can't explain it, but after talking to Nancy's Mother, you just can't feel bad any more. She makes Jesus so real that you want to be there, too."

mother play at the new organ. “ Karen has a new one too,” Mother said, and let her play it. “ Beautiful!” said Daddy. “ Just beautiful. And now would anyone like to hear my old song?” Mother grinned. “ I was just going to ask.” When Daddy had finished “ Softly and Tenderly,” Kathy announced, “ I have a song too!” Everybody looked at her. “Well, come and play it,” Daddy invited. “ I can’t play it, and neither can you. I found it at Sunday School,” Kathy added. “Well, give it to Mother. She can play anything. Get the book and let’s hear Kathy’s song,” Karen said. “ It’s not in a book.” Kathy went over and stood by her mother. “ Do my eyes shine?” she asked. Mother hugged her. “ They do (concluded on next page)

Whose Mind is Stayed on Thee. Very few Christians have learned this secret! The Harters have engrafted the Word of God to their lives. They are kept by its power! Unlike most grieving sur vivors, they do not seek solace in people but in the fellowship of Christ FIRST. Visitors at the Harter home during the days of Nancy's homegoing were inspired with the constant and cheerful Christian witness. Those who came to comfort went away comforted because they were minis tered to from the Word of God and Jesus Christ was presented in such a way that even the most skeptical were moved. All conversation was directed to the Glory of God. No funeral for Nancy, emphasing the lifeless corpse! Rather, a memorial service without the body to glorify the risen Saviour and the hope of the resurrected life with Him. This was a gospel service and only God knows the results. Almost a year has passed. Some have been saved and many have been brought closer to Christ because of the faithful lives of these people. There has been no defeat! Once again, Jesus has proven His power and His faithfulness to those who DARE to act upon His Word. His peace is PERFECT fo those who have learned to keep their minds stayed upon Him.
