Radio Kids adventure story cast in action: Dr. Brumfield, Eddie Satterfield, Terry Rogers, Susan Cianfrini, Louie Rhoden and Lynda Buzzard.

G od gave a special burden and vision for reaching boys and girls with the gospel of Christ by radio on October 30, 1943, to Dr. J. C. “ Cliff” Brumfield. At that time he was associate director of the “ Back to the Bible” broadcast and started a pro gram which is known today as “ The Radio Kids Bible Club.” During a four year association with Dr. Theo dore Epp, director of the well-known international broadcast, Mr. Brum field felt there was a definite need for reaching children via radio. During this period he was state director of Child Evangelism Fellowship. A l though he had intended to stay with the “ Back to the Bible Broadcast,” God opened other doors of ministry and service for him. Three broadcasting outlets were secured in the midwest which prom ised to carry the program. Dr. Brum field immediately saw that he had a full-time job on his hands. The first format of the program included the children’s choir which he himself directed. For many months the work grew rapidly with the average of one station a week being added. Dr. Brumfield’s main desire was to present the message of Christ to chil dren by attractive and appealing illus trations. To do this, a dramatized story with sound effects was used. The ener getic and talented director imitated many voices himself, carrying the job proficiently. Gradually a children’s cast was brought into being. Despite long hours of preparation and re

hearsal, a different story was used every week. A ll ideas were saved for possible story material. Immediately a flood of letters was received from boys and girls who had accepted Christ as Saviour from this unique manner of presentation. The Brumfield’s own daughter played one of the lead parts for eight years until she entered West mont College. Radio Kids Bible Club has had the stories put into book form and translated into foreign languages for world-wide distribution. To date, twenty-one different Suzie and John nie books have been distributed. Since starting, the Radio Kids Bible Club has used over 1500 songs and choruses. The current choir singing for the broadcast knows approximate ly 1 ,000 c h o r u s e s word perfect. Through the years, Dr. Brumfield, himself, has led the choir, however, at the present time Mrs. Ronald Mul lins has relieved him of this function and he is able to spend more time de veloping other phases of the program. “ It seems I have never made any public appearance or spoken in a church but that a person has come to tell me, after the meeting, that they were saved through listening to the Radio Kids Bible Club,” Dr. Brum field states. “ I cannot think that TV has hurt our ministry, either. If any thing, it has strengthened it,” he de clared. “ Television is always appeal ing to the excitement of the youngster much like the comic book. We feel that the dramatizations on the Radio Kids Bible Club fill a real need for

Mrs. Brumfield with some of the many foreign Translators of the Suzie and Johnny Books.
