College – Issue 33

NEWS & EVENTS John Adcock retires

John Adcock has retired from College after 30 years of service in his role as property manager. An Old Boy, John was one of the original members of Corfe House when it opened in 1960. It has been a demanding role managing College’s numerous commercial properties, especially after the earthquakes when a major complex was badly damaged. However, John says these challenges have been the highlight of his career and he has enjoyed the management role.

John has also had other roles during his time at College. For 10 years he lived on site, assisting the librarian in the evenings and on Saturday mornings when the library was open to boarders. John says College is now a very different place from when he first arrived as a student and then later when he started work at the school. “Most of these changes have definitely been positive and have had a big impact on both the boys and staff members. I think that future changes can only be for the good, especially under the educational guidance of Executive Principal

Garth Wynne and the administrative direction of Director of Finance and Operations Steve Kelsen.” It is going to be a busy retirement for John, who lives on a lifestyle block at Ohoka and he has ensured that he has his retirement plans fully in place. “I’m looking forward to travelling and undertaking more sporting opportunities,’’ says John, who already plays tennis, bowls and table tennis. Along with those interests and the 14 grandchildren he and his partner have, there will be plenty to keep him on his toes.
