College – Issue 33

A STORY OF LEADERSHIP AND BEQUESTS Fundraising travels in Hawke’s Bay

The Development Office plays a unique role in College life. It supports the school in a range of ways, from financial assistance to communicating and engaging with alumni, running key functions and events, and stewarding the wider College community.

We have many visitors – usually Old Boys, past parents, former teachers or administration staff – all people who have contributed to and enjoyed their time at College. Their reasons for returning may be different, but they do so because they all have one thing in common: their love for the school.

In the Development Office we are continually inspired by the loyalty and strong feelings of affection so many people have for College in so many different ways. When travelling to Hawke’s Bay last year, I came across two Old Boys who personified that concept in the most

positive way. With a major College fundraising campaign about to unfold, I was sure I had found the committed and able leaders who possessed that affection, and who would share that sentiment with others in their area. And, as we met one evening over a drop of the local product for which the region is renowned, the stories flowed.
