JULY 2023

Growing Together with You

A PROUD DAD SAYS GOODBYE My Son Belongs to America Now!

Be honest — did you read last month’s newsletter? I hope so because it was a good one! But if not, here’s what you missed: My son, Nick, made a surprise appearance to announce he’s headed off to the United States Naval Academy. In his letter, Nick told you all about his passion for cruise ships, his plan to become a ship captain, and what it was like for him to work with his dad (yours truly) here at Dellutri Law Group. Now, it’s time for me to return the favor! I know, I know — normally, you get fresh new content here in my letter each month, not the same story twice. But it’s impossible for this dad to resist bragging about his son a little. First, I want to say I know a thing or two about what it’s like to work with your parents. I started pumping gas at my dad’s New Jersey gas station when I was just 7 years old. Pretty soon I was working on tires, then tackling bigger mechanical jobs fixing customers’ cars. I didn’t take these tasks lightly. After all, a car is the No. 1 machine families rely on every day! My dad made sure I knew the stakes every time I changed a spark plug or swapped out a set of brake pads. “Carmen,” he told me, “we can’t make mistakes. If we do, people will get hurt.” When Nick joined my team, I impressed that same lesson upon him. I explained that whether we’re working on a personal injury case or bankruptcy, we’re holding people’s lives in our hands.

Nick took his job seriously and had fun doing it. He’s a very impressive young man — but you don’t have to take my word for it! Here are a few notes from people on my team who worked with Nick on a daily basis (and aren’t his bragging dad). “Nicholas is a ball of joy. He can make anyone laugh, and you will definitely know when he is in the building. Nicholas loves to scare me, as it is very easy to do so. He will hide behind a door or corner, just waiting for me to walk by. Of course, he is recording the entire event so he can put it on TikTok. When that boy takes off for the Naval Academy, we will all miss him, his energy, and his laughter. But we know that he is destined to do great things. We are all so proud of him.”

–Ashley

“Nicholas started work at a very young age. He took his naps under my desk and drank his bottle while I accepted documents from clients and answered the phones. He always had a smile on his little face. At around 5 years old, he walked around the office with a clipboard, making sure everyone was on task. You always know when Nicholas has entered the building, as the volume in the office increases and there is laughter throughout … He loves hanging out by the front desk to make sure clients are welcomed. He is the first to pick up on an incoming phone call. If he is in a creative mood, he will redesign your hairstyle with binder clips. It’s always an adventure.”

-Ronnie

If you follow us on social media, you’ve seen Nick’s work firsthand. I’m going to miss having him at the office, but I’m proud he’s chasing his dream. Plus, I know I’ll sleep well at night while he’s manning our guns in the Navy! If my kid sees something that’s not supposed to be there, he won’t have a problem blowing it out of the water.

Happy with our service? We’d love to hear from you! We are always honored when our clients and associates refer their friends, family, and colleagues our way — or simply say kind things about our firm. If there is anything we can do for you, please let us know. We’re here to help!

Attorneys Work for Free? Free, free free. It seems that all personal injury attorneys are now advertising that they are free. But we all know better than that. How in the world would they pay for all the billboards, and radio and television ads that drive us all crazy? So, how can they advertise that their services are free? It’s easy. I’ve been practicing personal injury law since 1995, and my services have been free until the time of settlement or a jury verdict. When a person is injured in a car accident, they can hire an attorney for free under a contingency fee contract. The contingency is a successful settlement or jury verdict. If there is no successful settlement or jury verdict, the client doesn’t pay. So, in reality, a personal injury attorney is only free if you lose your case. But, if you do reach a successful settlement or jury verdict, you will pay attorney’s fees and costs.

OUR CLIENTS SAY IT BEST

“I called Dellutri after my car wreck, and they helped me with everything. I didn’t have to pay out of pocket. We settled my case, and I was very pleased with the settlement.” –L.M.

So, don’t fall for all that free nonsense. Attorneys do not work for free. Just thought you should know the truth.

Protect Your Family From Road Rage Shootings Our Roads Are Becoming More Dangerous!

The Gas Fueling the Road Rage Fire Why are road rage shootings rising? Experts blame lingering anxiety from the COVID-19 pandemic, stress over the economy, political division, increased gun sales, and the fact that many Americans keep guns in their cars. Legal Recourse for Road Rage Victims If you or someone you know falls victim to a road rage incident, you can seek justice in court. After you get medical attention, give us a call. We’ll assess whether you have a case, what type of case it is (civil, criminal, or both), and what steps to take to win and get compensation for your injuries. Protect Yourself From Angry Drivers First and foremost, don’t be an angry driver yourself! Avoid driving when you’re upset, keep your car comfortable to prevent yourself from feeling irritable, and pick a strategy to calm yourself down (like a mantra or breathing exercise). If an angry driver targets you , stay calm, move away from them, and don’t respond to their behavior. The second you feel scared or unsafe, call 911.

Imagine this: You’re zooming down the interstate with your family, about halfway to your road trip destination. The windows are down, and you’re singing along to one of your favorite songs on the radio. It’s the perfect summer afternoon. Then, another car appears behind you and starts riding your bumper. The vehicle won’t stop tailgating, so you tap your brakes, hoping to startle them into leaving you be. It doesn’t work. Instead, the car revs its engine, and a hand emerges from the driver’s side window. BAM! Your back windshield shatters, and your family starts screaming. This situation might sound dramatic, but it’s happening more than ever on American roadways. In 2019, 225 people were shot in road rage incidents across the country, resulting in 67 deaths. In 2022, both of those numbers had doubled, with over 550 people being shot and 141 killed. And the violence continues — in April 2023, two fathers in Florida opened fire on each other’s cars, leaving a 5-year-old and 14-year-old wounded.

A NEW MEMBER OF THE TENNESSEE BAR Congratulations to Carmen

Congratulations goes out to our very own Carmen Dellutri. He is now a member of the Tennessee bar. Carmen decided to join the Tennessee bar after Hurricane Ian and COVID-19 ravaged southwest Florida. Believe it or not, we had an amazing number of clients tell us they were moving to the state of Tennessee. Now, those same clients are asking us if we can help them there. So, that sparked Carmen’s interest in being sworn in as a member of the Tennessee bar. Judge Ogle, who has served as a judge for 33 years, performed the swearing-in ceremony. Carmen and the judge hit it off really well, and he extends a big thank you to Judge Ogle. Now that Carmen has been sworn in, he is eligible to help our Tennessee clients. At the time this article was written, we had not acquired a new office space there, but as soon as we do, our clients will be the first to know. If you have a friend or relative in the state of Tennessee who needs a good lawyer, you know who to call.
