THE KONECKY JOURNAL TURNS 7! Your Voice Matters
THE KONECKY JOURNAL JUNE/JULY 2024
This issue marks the seventh anniversary of The Konecky Journal. Many of you have read this newsletter since our First Edition in July 2017.
testimonials “A Message from the Faithful.” We take the time to craft and curate this newsletter as a bonus for “the faithful” — the clients and friends who make my law practice a success. I’ve shared with you how I’ve grown in my profession, gained a better understanding of myself as a person and attorney, and how helping people has become my core motivation. We’ve also taken up some knotty legal topics, such as how self-driving cars could make owners more vulnerable to DUI charges and why your auto insurance pays your medical bills after an accident even when you’re not at fault. I’ve also told some family stories, including how my sister Kate worked on the front lines during the pandemic, delivering frozen vaccines to her county health department. When I’m in the thick of it, working on a case for a client, I don’t often have the time to share personal interests. When a conversation with one client surfaced with the facts that I love music and that the client was a recording artist, I was pleased when he sent me one of his songs. (It was really good!) Wins and losses are one thing, but getting to know and understand my clients a little more is an added benefit that I really value. Mostly, I keep my cards close to the vest in my practice, but this newsletter gives me an outlet to share more personal information about myself. I’d like to get to know you more, faithful readers. As I think about future topics for this page, I would love to hear from you. I’m eager to know what you want me to take up in the coming months. Are there topics I’ve covered in the past that you’d like to know more about? Teslas and DUI laws? Pro wrestling? Quad Cities-style pizza? Please send me an email with your thoughts and requests. And meanwhile, I hope you have a wonderful summer!
You’ve read about my opinions and experiences on so many topics in the last seven years. You’ve traveled
with me through two office moves, a pandemic, and a shoulder surgery. You’ve read my thoughts on dozens of topics, from summer travel and World Music Day to Quad Cities-style pizza and National Get Up Day. We’ve laughed about Florida Man and recognized “Embrace Your
Geekness Day” when I wrote about my love for “Star Wars,” Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and the sci-fi drama “Stranger Things.”
I enjoy getting feedback from my readers. Among the newsletter’s greatest hits, my 2019 column on my childhood love of pro wrestling drew the biggest response I’ve ever received. Some of you expressed surprise. One reader wrote, “I
“MOSTLY, I KEEP MY CARDS CLOSE TO THE VEST IN MY PRACTICE, BUT THIS NEWSLETTER GIVES ME AN OUTLET TO SHARE MORE PERSONAL INFORMATION ABOUT MYSELF.”
didn’t know you liked pro wrestling! I like it too.” I had fun recounting my trip to see my favorite star, Hulk Hogan, perform in person. Of course, pro wrestling is phony and scripted. But it is also theatrical and larger-than-life — and it’s fun! I appreciated hearing from fellow fans. Readers also have learned about my teenage passion for Pearl Jam and how their affectionate name for their fans, “The Faithful,” led us to rename our Page 2 newsletter column of client

Are you tired of spending more money on fewer ingredients? You are not alone. While prices for most consumer goods have increased, food costs have increased even more. Grocery prices have increased by 25% since 2020, outpacing inflation by 6%. By buying food that costs less, lasts longer, and feeds more people, you can keep your grocery bills manageable while still eating well. Look for these foods at the grocery store to keep your wallet and pantry full! Ground Meat Whether it’s chicken, beef, turkey, or pork, ground meat is cheap and usable in many recipes. In addition to a range of options to meet dietary restrictions and preferences, ground meat is sold in larger quantities and costs less than many other forms of meat. Despite not being a “prime cut” option, ground meat is still full of protein that satisfies your hunger. Peanut Butter While everyone loves peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, this inexpensive ingredient can also be used in a number of other recipes. It can be used as a delicious protein additive to smoothies or spread on celery to make ants on a log. Tortillas Tortillas come in two main varieties: corn and flour. The former is more traditional and less expensive, but if you prefer flour, it’s still an economical option. While you can buy pre-cooked tortillas, the flavor is much better when you cook them yourself. If you buy in bulk, you can save the tortillas you aren’t ready to use by freezing them, allowing you to save more and only use what you need. Tortillas are also used by astronauts as a substitute for bread since they don’t leave crumbs when you eat them. If they are good enough for astronauts, they’re good enough for us! Steer Clear of Holiday Road Risks
Download These Books Today ! YOUR LEGAL RESOURCE Knowing how to prevent accidents and how to defend your rights if an accident does occur is crucial. Following basic safety rules could prevent most car accidents. Wearing a seatbelt reduces the risk of fatal injury by 80%. Check your tires to make sure they are properly inflated. Abide by speed limits and, as always, avoid your cell phone and other distractions while driving, and pull over if you feel fatigued. Few drivers set out on a summer trip thinking about having an accident. However, holiday travel typically increases the number of accidents caused by motorists who are speeding, drunk, or inexperienced. More older drivers over the age of 70 also get behind the wheel to visit family or friends. The Independence Day holiday consistently ranks as one of the deadliest weekends on the road. Hazards will likely increase this year because the 4th of July falls on a Thursday, triggering a four-day break from work for many motorists. More than 600 travelers are expected to die in traffic accidents over the long weekend, the National Safety Council estimates. Labor Day weekend is expected to take an additional 455 lives.
If you are involved in an accident, stay calm, take stock of any injuries to others or yourself, and call 9-1-1 if needed. If your vehicle is blocking traffic, move it to the side of the road if possible. Document details of the accident scene, including highway conditions, the position of vehicles, and road signs. Also, you must collect the contact and insurance information from other parties. Even if you don’t believe you’re injured, arrange to have a doctor do a medical evaluation. Not all injuries are immediately apparent. Also, consider engaging an experienced car accident attorney. Florida law requires that any accident that results in injury, death, or significant property damage be reported to the police. If you have concerns about reimbursement for personal injuries or securing a legal defense against DUI or other traffic charges, we will gladly provide you with the information you need. We have numerous five-star reviews from clients who have found the help they need with us. Contact our firm at 561-671-5995 or email us through our website for a free consultation today.
