For the Children T he S tory of J esus F or E v e r y o n e A cts 10:17-34, 44-48 MEMORY VERSE: “For the salme Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon Him” (Rom. 10:12). AIM: To teach that God is no re specter of persons; He gave the Lord Jesus Christ to die upon Calvary for the sins of all people, regardless of their race, or their position in dally affairs of this life. APPROACH: Some boys arid girls believe that the Lord Jesus canie to save only those who live in their country. God’s Word teaches that “the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon Him” (Rom. 10:12). LESSON STORY: Peter, one of Je sus’ disciples, believed that the Sa viour had died for Jews only. One day when Peter was praying on top of one of thè flat-roofed houses in the city of Joppa, God gave him a vision, or dream, to show him -tliat this belief was not right. Peter saw a large sheet being let down out of Heaven. In the sheet were marly animals, insects, and birds. God said: “Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.” Because the Jews believed that only certain meat was “clean” and could be eaten, Peter replied, “Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean.” God told him not to call anything unclean that He had cleansed. Three times this was done, and then the sheet was raised back into Heaven. Then Peter awakened and while hè was wondering what the vision meant, three men appeared at the gate to the yard and asked whether or hot Peter was in the house. The men were servants of Cornelius, who lived in another city, and who was an of ficer in the Roman army. Cornelius loved God but did not know about the Lord Jesus. As he had been pray ing one day, God had spoken to him through an angel, and had told him to send men to Joppa to find Peter and to bring him back with them to Cornelius’ house. Cornelius and his family were not Jews. While the men at the gate were in quiring for Peter, God told Peter that He had sent the men and that hè, Peter, should go with them to Cor nelius’ house. Then Peter knew th$t his dream had been sent by God to tell him that the Gospel was for every one in all the world. He went with the three men, and found Cornelius and his family and friends waiting for him to tell them about the Sa viour. As Peter was telling them th,e story of the Lord Jesus, they believed upon Him and became Christians. Some of those who came, with Petér were surprised that anyone except Je>vs could be saved. Peter com manded these new Christians to bè baptized to show others that they, too, belonged to thé Lord Jesus.
