COVER STORY / 2025 Broker of the Year Award National Finalists

What challenges do you think a broker might face in 2035? By 2035, insurance brokers will face a variety of challenges as the industry continues to evolve. Technology like AI and blockchain will likely automate many processes, which could reduce the need for traditional brokerage roles. To stay relevant, brokers will need to focus on offering specialised advice and personalised solutions that go beyond what technology can provide. Emerging risks, like those driven by climate change and cybersecurity threats, will also create new complexities. Brokers will need to help clients navigate these challenges while staying ahead of evolving coverage needs. On top of that, stricter regulations and compliance requirements will demand constant attention and adaptability. The way brokers are remunerated through fees and commissions is also likely to change. Increased transparency and regulatory scrutiny may push the industry toward more fee-based models, requiring brokers to clearly demonstrate the value they bring. Finally, client expectations will shift, especially with younger, tech-savvy generations expecting fast, seamless, and digital-first experiences. Brokers will need to balance this demand for innovation with the personal, human touch that remains at the heart of what we do. What is your broking philosophy? My broking philosophy is deeply personal and shaped by my journey in the insurance industry. Growing up with a father who was an insurance broker, I was inspired by his passion for the profession and the meaningful impact it has on people's lives. For me, broking is about building trust and strong relationships, understanding the unique needs of clients, and crafting tailored solutions to safeguard against uncertainties. Collaboration is at the heart of what I do, whether it’s working with clients, insurers, or my team, and I take pride in the dynamic and ever-evolving nature of the industry. I believe in embracing innovation, such as leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance decision- making and efficiency, while never losing sight of the importance of human interaction for relationship-building and personalized service. Ethical responsibility and transparency are also central to my approach, especially as the industry shifts towards fee-based models that require brokers to demonstrate their advisory and risk management value. Ultimately, my passion for promoting financial security and resilience drives my commitment to excellence and making a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and businesses.

Brokers are evolving to become trusted strategic advisors. What does this mean for our profession? The shift towards brokers becoming trusted strategic advisors is a game-changer for our profession. It’s no longer just about placing insurance policies; it’s about being a true partner to clients, helping them navigate risks and make informed decisions. This means we need to build stronger relationships, really understand what makes our clients tick, and offer tailored solutions that go beyond the basics. With stricter regulations and the move towards fee- based models, we’ve got to step up and show the value we bring as advisors and risk managers. Technology, like AI, is making things faster and more efficient, but at the end of the day, nothing beats the human touch when it comes to building trust and handling complex situations. This evolution is challenging, but it’s also exciting—it’s a chance for us to prove just how vital we are in helping businesses and individuals thrive. What are some lessons that you’ve learnt along the way that you wish someone told you about on day 1 of the job? Adaptability is essential in our fast-paced industry, where client needs, market trends, and regulations are constantly evolving. Staying flexible and open to new approaches is vital for success. It’s also important to remember that you don’t need to have all the answers—never hesitate to ask questions, whether it’s to clients, insurers, stakeholders, colleagues, or friends. Curiosity and a willingness to learn are invaluable traits. Additionally, while technical expertise is important, soft skills like communication, emotional intelligence, and teamwork often play an even greater role in determining career success. Cultivating these skills can make all the difference. If you were to be crowned the national Broker of the Year winner, what would that recognition mean to you? Being crowned the winner of the 2025 Broker of the Year would be huge career achievement! It’s a recognition of my hard work, dedication, and expertise in the insurance brokerage industry. This award highlights my ability to deliver great service and creative solutions to clients, as well as my contribution to the success and reputation of Gallagher Insurance Brokers. Winning this will boost my credibility, open doors for career growth, and strengthen the trust and relationships I’ve built with clients. It’s also a win for Gallagher, reflecting the values and excellence we stand for.
