Frédéric Daty

From city to city, French sculptor Frédéric Daty continues to create metropolis-inspired masterpieces. As a silent witness to the vibrant world around him, Daty strips each city to its core before his deconstructed interpretation can be realised. Demanding the attention of the viewer from the nucleus outwards, in an explosion of light, energy and movement, Daty

orchestrates an interaction between the sculpture and the viewer. Working in steel to reflect the raw, primal microcosms he re-creates, Daty simultaneously uses light both to reveal and conceal details while enhancing emotions through suggestion just as his predecessors, Caravaggio, Rembrandt and Georges De La Tour did before him.

Young Fine Artist

INSPIRING THE NEXT GENERATION OF ARTISTS IN OXFORD

So far this year we have taken our community initiative, Young Fine Artist, on tour to our galleries in Solihull and Oxford, furthering our quest to inspire the next generation of budding artists. During the first competition we welcomed pupils from Tanworth- in-Arden Primary School for a tour of our gallery in Mell Square Shopping Centre in Solihull with gallery manager, Porl McHale. They learnt about the range of artists and artwork on display and we then tasked them to come up with their own designs inspired by their favourite artist. Winner Samuel’s take on a Nic Joly sculpture wowed the judges and took pride of place

on the gallery walls for a month. He was also awarded with vouchers for leading independent retailer Cass Art, to build up his own collection of art supplies. Next up we invited a group from New Hinksey Primary School to our gallery in the Westgate Centre, Oxford, where gallery managers, Stacy Bodkin and Kevin Goodbody, talked through all of the exhibited artwork before putting the pupils’ knowledge to the test with a pop quiz. The judges were thoroughly impressed by all of the children’s creations, but Elijah took first place for his Richard Rowan-esque painting.

We’re always seeking to engage with the communities around our galleries, and encourage the future generation to enjoy and fill the world with art. If you think your child could be our next Young Fine Artist, you can find out how to nominate their school by visiting www.castlefineart.com/ community-giving
