The exhibition spans Gauguin’s early work to his later years, and demonstrates how his work transitioned from Impressionism to Symbolism, and is the very first exhibition to be fully devoted to Gauguin’s portraits. Featuring circa fifty works, it will examine how one sitter was portrayed by the artist using different media over time. The exhibition will coincide with screenings of ‘Gauguin from the National Gallery’ at cinemas across the UK. Filmed in Tahiti, the Marquesas, France and the UK, the movie will feature a 60-minute documentary and a 30-minute tour of the exhibition by its curators and guest contributors.

This exhibition presents the perfect opportunity to explore the work of pop art pioneer, Roy Lichtenstein. Inspired by the comic strip, Lichtenstein art is a commentary on the cultural and political landscape of America from the 1960s onwards. The collection, which is on loan from the Roy Lichtenstein Foundation, features artworks from different periods of the artist’s life.

A treat for lovers of ancient art and history, the exhibition reconstructs the table culture of the people of Pompeii. The display features over 400 objects, from luxury furnishings and beautiful mosaics to the food being served in households across the city on that fateful day in AD 79, when Vesuvius erupted. It reveals the everyday importance of food and dining during that time, and how the Ancient Romans adopted culinary ideas from other cultures.

Poet, painter and printmaker, William Blake, created some of the most iconic images in British art history. Running from September until February, you will be able to visit the largest William Blake exhibition in 20 years, with over 300 artworks to feature in the display. Some of the paintings will be digitally enlarged and projected onto the gallery wall, while the original artworks will be displayed in a space re-creating Blake’s failed exhibition in 1809, which took place in the room above his family’s hosiery shop. The exhibition has been designed to give viewers a unique insight into William Blake’s professional and private life.

Commemorating 350 years since Rembrandt’s death, this exhibition is set to redefine the way we perceive the artist’s work. Arranged thematically, to mirror Rembrandt’s acknowledged gift for storytelling, the exhibition will feature 35 artworks on loan from institutions across the world, including the Rijksmuseum and Le Louvre. Visitors will be able to see three of the artist’s most famous images of women: A Woman Bathing in a Stream, A Woman in Bed and Girl at a Window, as well as Philemon and Baucis (1658), which will be displayed in the UK for the first time.
