Nigel Mason
Inspired by his childhood in 1950s Yorkshire, Nigel Mason’s touching oil paintings depict scenes that rekindle memories and encourage nostalgia. He says: “I’d describe it as small narrative vignettes. They’re like painting versions of film stills that capture intimate moments in time and observations of life, from the mundane to the profound.” In literature – including screenplays, poetry and novels – a vignette is a brief, impressionistic scene which gives an intimate insight into a setting or character. Meaning is derived through imagery rather than plot development. By describing his work as vignettes, Nigel perfectly encapsulates the fleeting moments he creates.
