In the Center of it All— and Growing! Centrally located in the heart of West Virginia,

The name Bridgeport was born out of a cartographers mistake. Settled in the mid-1700s by early fur traders who came west over the Allegheny Mountains, Bridgeport was originally named Bridge Fort in reference to a bridge over Simpson’s creek that connected local forts. However, due to the mapmaker’s misspelling, the town became Bridgeport. Much of the new development in Bridgeport over the last several years has happened at Charles Pointe. Charles Pointe is a $1.4 billion state- of-the-art mixed use community spanning over 1,700 acres along the I-79 High Tech Corridor. It is a combination of commercial, residential and recreational opportunities in one community. Highlighted by the Bridgeport Conference Center, the area features hotels, restaurants, retail, office space and recreation venues all in close proximity to each other. Bridgeport is a hub for meetings, conferences, youth sports, shopping and dining. With easy access from Interstate 79 and Route 50, Bridgeport is a convenient drive from almost any location in West Virginia.

Bridgeport is also home of a stellar parks and recreation program which includes a pool, multiple parks, public lakes, walking trails and much more.
