FEBRUARY 1 In the Little Place “He that is faithful in that which is least

Growing by Thy grace more lowly, More like Thee. — S e le cte d . FEBRUARY 4 Power in Prayer “Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attent unto the prayer that is made in this place” (2 Chron. 7:15). My life is one long, daily, hourly report of answered prayer. For physical health, for mental overstrain, for guidance given marvelously . . . for everything that goes to make up life and my poor service, I can testify with a full and often wonderstricken awe that God answers prayer. — M a r y S lessor . Prayer makes the darkest cloud withdraw, Prayer climbs the ladder Jacob saw, Gives exercise to faith and love, Brings every blessing from above. One day when Robert Annan, the Dun dee hero, was speaking about heaven, Mrs. B. said, “ I’ll be satisfied if I manage some how to get in.” “What I” said Robert, pointing to a sunken vessel that had been dragged up the Tay, “ would- you like to be pulled into heaven by two tugs like the ‘London’ yonder? I would like to get in with all my sails set and colors flying.” Let us never be content with a half-blessed Christian experience . . . Why wander in the wilderness when God invites us to journey through a land flowing with milk and honey? T o be a wilderness Christian is to endure salvation rather than to enjoy it.— R e g in a l d W a l l is . FEBRUARY 6 Redeeming Love “Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us” (1 John 3 :16). Spurgeon records in his autobiography how he saw the vision of the crucified Redeemer. This vision brought him to his knees. When he saw the Lord with bleed ing back and thorn-crowned head, and real ized that Christ had died for him, his heart melted. In all the choices of life, the thought of God’s love in Christ means more than we can ever know. We can make our great decisions, confident in the love that will not let us go. This, ?mid all the pit- falls of experiences, remains our comfort and hope. It is indeed the unfathomable mine, the wonder of which we can never exhaust. •We can say: “O love of God, how strong; how true, Eternal and yet ever new.” — R e g in a ld K ir b y . — S elected . FEBRUARY 5 Fullness “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (John 10:10).

Compiled by Don M. A lle n (com poser of “ All That I Need Is Jesus” ) ;

is faithful also in much” (Lk. 16:10). “Father, where shall I work today?” And my love flowed warm and free. Then He pointed me toward a tiny spot And said, “Tend that for Me.” I answered quickly, “Oh, no, not that! Why, no one would ever see, No matter how well my work was done, In that little place for me.” And the word He spoke, it was not stern, He answered me tenderly: “Ah, little one, search that heart of thine. Art thou working for them or Me? Nazareth was a little place, And so was Galilee.” — S elected . Heart Response “ But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you” (Rom. 6:17). If you will obey your Lord from your heart, out of true love to Him—and Jesus said, “ If ye love me, keep my command ments” (John 14:15)—if you will obey from the heart, you will be His free man, and sin will not have dominion over you. I know of no other way of deliverance ex cept by that heart obedience, the response to God of an obedient heart and will. If you walk in obedience, you are free. Jericho was a glorious triumph; Ai was a failure because of disobedience. God taught us a great principle in that history. — G eorge G o o d m a n . More and more it has come to my heart and mind that in these solemn days, so pregnant with meaning for the true church, we, too, must enter deeper into this great confession of the Apostle Paul and (live that life which is dead to sin and dead to the world. It does not mean a sinless or a per fect life. Far from that! Daily we must do it afresh, yielding ourselves unto God . . . If the glorious fact that He “ died for our sins,” that our sins can no longer rise up against us, brings joy and peace, the life that realizes ip faith the death to sin and the world, through the death of Christ, brings a still greater joy and peace, as well as the assurance that we please God. —A. C. G a e b e l e in . Nearer still, and ever nearer, Daily I would be, FEBRUARY 3 Dying Daily "I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily” (1 Cor. 15:31). .................
