I am delighted to welcome you to Alderwasley Hall School and Sixth Form. We are exceptionally proud of every aspect of our school and homes, from the academic and social achievement of our learners, to the outstanding specialist intervention and support we can provide for young people in our classes and our care.

OUR GOLDEN RULES

CLOTHING

You need a dressing gown and slippers which must be worn over your nightwear whenever you are out of your bedroom

Remember to check the weather in the morning so you wear the right clothes and are comfortable for your day in school.

STAYING SAFE ONLINE & YOUR DEVICES

If your parents/carers agree, you can bring your own devices with you. They will be kept in your own bedroom.

The Wifi is on between 4pm and 10pm Monday to Friday and longer at the weekends

The WiFi is monitoried by the school IT team and has filters that will stop you accessing prohibited sites. This is done to protect and keep you safe.

WE UNDERSTAND PLAYING GAMES IS IMPORTANT TO YOU We keep to the PEGI guidelines set around age approprate materials and you will not be able to play a game or watch films, videos or programmes which are not age appropriate.

Keeping the house clean and tidy is EVERYONE's Job.

The TV gets turned off at 9.30pm

Each home has a washing machine & tumble dryer.

All of the home are in the school grounds which means getting to and from school is really easy.

You will have homecooked meals and the menu is agreed by you and your housemates, with guidance from the staff. You will need to purchase any snacks you want. We encourage you to cook for yourself and your housemates.

If you are one of our older students you may have some lessons at the Upper Site, which means you will travel in the school mini bus each morning. The mini bus leaves Lower Site at 8.45am and will bring you back from Upper Site to Lower Site when the school day finishes.

Each home has a team of people called the care team. Karen Tatham is the Head of Care Samantha White is the Care Manager Sherrie Thompson is a Team Leader Elli Hooper-Grampe is a Team Leader

Each house is supported by a Team Leader and a Residential Support Worker. They are all there to help and support you. One of these people will be your 'Key Worker'. Your 'Key Worker' is dedicated to making sure you are happy and healthy whilst you are with us. They will spend time with you to discuss anything that is worrying you and also organise activities you enjoy.

You will have the opportunity to earn reward money:this might be linked to targets in your care plan.

We also have an allocated weekly budget for activities for each young person in the home, but you can also use your own personal bank account with a bank card.

Achieving Independence Supporting you to become independent is really important to us.

To do this we have a course that you can work through to get certificates and even a cash prize when you complete each level.

There are 3 levels for you to work through.....

BEHAVIOUR COACHING

Following the rules and keeping yourself and others safe means that you'll be able to enjoy lots of great opportunities.

Examples of behaviours that are not acceptable:

Physical or verbal aggression Unsafe behaviour Bullying Verbal abuse towards peers, staff or others Damaging property

RELATIONSHIPS

We promote being active listeners, to support your feeling and wishes, but also keeping you happy and safe in any form of relationship. Within the home and school we have a team of staff who are able to help and support you, we also have a Well-Being Officer on the Lower and Upper Site that are available during the day to talk too.

An advocate can provide information to help you make decisions Help you contact the relevant people, or contact them for you Listen to your views or concerns What an advocate will do What an advocate won't do Give you their personal opinion Solve problems and make decisions for you Make judgements about you

TURNING 18 YEARS OF AGE

Turning 18 is a big milestone for you. When you turn 18 years of age you will become a legal adult. This means that you will be deemed able to make your own decisions about all apects of your life, unless it is established that you lack the mental capacity to do so.

When you are at Alderwasley you will be able to make more of your own decisions. This includes what information you pass on to your parents/carers. You can decide on the frequency you email your parent/carers, as well as give your own consent.

Safeguarding is the action that is taken to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm. What is Safeguarding?

Safeguarding means:

Protecting children from abuse and maltreatment

Preventing harm to children's health and development

Child protection is part of the safeguarding process. It focuses on protecting individual children identified as suffereing or likely to suffer significant harm. This includes child protection procedures which detail how to repsond to CONCERNS ABOUT A CHILD

Ensuring children grow up with the provision of safe and effective care

Taking action to enable all children and young people to have the best outcomes

We are all responsible for safeguarding
