I think the gift of sobriety is that you get to remember that you are the star of your life and that you have the power within you to make the tough decisions yourself by trusting your instincts and knowledge, by knowing your values and who you are. Not by what others think or say or any of those shoulds. I know that becoming addicted to a substance that took hold very tightly, and finding the strength somehow to break free - with all the grit it took to do so - has helped me believe that I can be that someone I’d hoped to become. It helped remind me that I am the director of my life and that now, I can write the rest of my story. I know things will happen that will be out of my control, but I can do what I need to do in order to keep my storyline going in the right direction. I’m getting my imagination back and life is slowly becoming a place of possibility. Sobriety has been the catalyst for change in my life and I am grateful for this second chance to live a life I can be proud of and be proud of the person I have and will continue to become. I am once again the star.
