Hola Sober SEPTEMBER

CURATED

SHANA E.

Why must me always bring our curated selves to the world? Why must be taught so young we must show up with allure? With hair done, nails done, a smile plastered on To hell with the curated version this time realness has won I’m done with the niceties, the ‘I’m fine’, ‘All is well’ To hell with what the society thinks it’s time I finally tell Women who ‘get it’ I hurt, I’m down, I feel out of sorts Because the women who surround me can help me not fall short By giving into the doubts ‘can I do this’?, ‘can I be raw’? Will my curated version win out after all? To hell with that version we want the truth, good and bad We now know it’s not normal to always feel up, we are allowed to feel sad So the curated version can sit down, it’s her last call And to the women with doubts, here’s the secret you already have it all Inside you, is a warrior, who’s strength is enormous We are with women who ‘get it’ as we sing the dawn’s chorus Not today lady, not today
