In today’s construction landscape, compliance with PAS 24 is no longer optional; it is essential. Developed as a benchmark for enhanced security performance, PAS 24 provides a rigorous testing method to ensure that doorsets can withstand opportunistic and forced-entry attempts commonly encountered in the UK. However, one of the most important, and often misunderstood, aspects of PAS 24 is that it tests the entire doorset as a complete system, not just individual components. This means that every element, from the locking mechanism to the letterplate, plays a critical role in achieving compliance. UAP’s integrated approach to hardware specification addresses this challenge, ensuring that all components work together seamlessly to meet and exceed PAS 24 requirements. U nderstanding PAS 24 PAS 24 has been developed to assess how doors and windows resist attack methods typically used by opportunistic intruders. These attacks are often low-skill but highly effective if weak points exist within the doorset. Unlike component-level standards, PAS 24 evaluates the combined performance of hardware, glazing, locks, and accessories. A failure in any one component, no matter how small, can result in the entire doorset failing the test. This approach makes hardware selection critical. Manufacturers and specifiers must ensure that every piece of hardware is not only individually robust but also compatible within a tested configuration. Adam Dixon, Senior Technical Manager, added, “PAS 24 assesses the performance of the entire doorset under simulated attack conditions, so every component must function as part of a
cohesive system. Multipoint locks, cylinders and letterplates all need to maintain structural integrity and resist manipulation without creating weak points. Our approach is to engineer hardware that works together to deliver consistent, repeatable performance in PAS 24 testing.” T he R ole of M ultipoint L ocks in PAS 24 T esting At the core of any secure doorset is the locking system. Fullex’s multipoint locks are engineered to deliver exceptional performance across multiple attack points. Multipoint locks distribute the locking force across several positions along the door frame, significantly increasing resistance against forced entry. UPVC REPAIR NOT REPLACE In 2024, the Souber Tools Window Mechanism Opener and the Door Spreader Kit were released and have gone on to become industry standards when tackling failed UPVC mechanisms. They didn’t just solve problems — they changed mindset. The kits focused on safely creating a spread to access and release mechanisms. Allowing locksmiths to replace the mechanism without any damage to the window/door frame. At the end of 2025, Souber Tools expanded that philosophy. Not with one tool, but with an interconnected range built around the most common failures in today’s market: UPVC and composite systems.

W hat the FIS W ales 2026 module covers The new FIS training module is targeted at those who have already completed the Introduction to the Building Safety Act and now need to understand how the Welsh system works in practice. It provides: • A clear explanation of how the Welsh building safety regime has evolved • An overview of the dutyholder and competence re- quirements applying from July 2026 • Practical guidance on the new building control ap- proval process • Detailed insight into higherrisk building procedures, staged approvals and prescribed information • Clarity on enforcement powers and what they mean in practice • A plainEnglish explanation of transitional arrange- ments for projects already underway P reparing for J uly 2026 Transitional provisions mean that some projects already in the system before 1st July 2026 will continue under the current arrangements. However, any project that has not deposited full plans or secured acceptance of an initial notice by that date will need to comply with the new Welsh regime from the outset. With increased emphasis on competence, accountability and documented compliance, now is the right time for organisations to ensure their teams understand how the Welsh system operates. FIS has launched a short, targeted e-learning module: The Building Safety Act Wales 2026 to help contractors, de- signers and specialists prepare for significant changes to building regulations in Wales coming into force on 1st July 2026. From that date, a new building safety regime will come into force in Wales, introducing fundamental changes to how building work is regulated, approved and enforced. While closely aligned with the principles of the Building Safety Act 2022 introduced in England, the Welsh system is not identical and will operate through different regula- tors, processes and documentation requirements. W hat is changing in W ales ? Wales is introducing a dutyholderled regulatory frame- work that applies to all regulated building work, with additional and more stringent requirements for higherrisk buildings (HRBs). The system has strong parallels with the English regime, but there are important practical differ- ences that contractors, designers and specialists need to understand. Key features of the Welsh regime include: • A dutyholder framework similar to England, applying to clients, designers, contractors, principal designers and principal contractors • Mandatory competence requirements for individu- als and organisations carrying out design or building work • Replacement of the traditional “deposit of plans” system with a new applicationbased building control approval process • Strengthened enforcement powers, including compli- ance notices, stop notices and extended enforcement periods • A separate staged approval system for higherrisk buildings, administered through local authority build- ing control rather than a Building Safety Regulator A significant difference from the English system is that Wales has not created a standalone Building Safety Regulator. Higherrisk buildings and enforcement remain within the jurisdiction of local authority building control, with different approval routes, statutory declarations and appeal mechanisms. The Welsh regime also defines high- errisk buildings more broadly, capturing buildings with at least one residential unit as well as hospitals and care homes with overnight stays.
