A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 10

This week we said goodbye to our Year 11 cohort and our Year 10s officially stepped up to become the leaders of the main school. On Thursday we had an assembly with our Head of Year 12 and a variety of students from the sixth form who came to talk to the students about their experiences of GCSE’s and how they made their post 16 choices. They talked about the pros and cons of the sixth form experience and gave lots of great advice to our cohort. As parents please do have a look through the post 16 options presentation that is on the school website under the parental engagement section for more detail. We are also encouraging our students to converse with their parents and teachers about their ideas for the future. This week’s top epraise scorers are Eliza A in 10FJA, Abi B in 10FJA, and Orla G also in 10FJA, which is moving their form up the rankings! We might see a change at the top at the end of term! Next week we will be celebrating mental health awareness week. Students will be attending an assembly on Thursday with Miss Lane the Deputy Head. We will also have the first group of our language trips, the French GCSE students off to Paris. Another exciting event that will be happening in the coming weeks is the announcement of our new Prefects, House Captains and Head Girl to the school.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

Turtles all the way down by John Green.

Turtles all the way down follows the 16 year old character Aza Holmes as she struggles with OCD and anxiety. However, she embarks on a journey to find out the mysterious absence of her ex million best friend’s father, despite the dangers involved within this. I found this book really intriguing as it gives you a first hand perspective on the experiences that people struggling and persevering with mental illnesses face. It also delves into the strong connections of friendships and how they shape you to be the person you are today.
