Message from Vice Mayor Anthony Becker

Greetings Santa Clarans and District 6 constituents, Spooky season is upon us with ghouls, goblins, witches and pumpkin spice. It's Halloween time! Whether you are trick-or-treating, dressing up in your spookiest costumes or decorating, Santa Clara loves to be the center of what's petrifying. Every year I enjoy our community showing off their Halloween spirit. October has plenty of frightening fun for the whole family, like the Parks & Recreation Department’s “SpooktaClara Halloween Party” on Oct. 26, from 12–3 p.m., or California’s Great America presents “Tricks and Treats” on select days from Sept. 20 – Oct. 26.

Job Opportunities Join the Center of What’s

A reminder to everyone driving to be cautious of trick-or-treaters as well as making sure kids go door-to-door with an adult. As always, it is an honor and privilege to serve as your representative on the council and your input is utmost important to me. Please do not hesitate to contact me for any community related issues. My lines of communication are open not only to District 6 residents, but all Santa Clarans. -Anthony Becker Vice Mayor & District 6 Councilmember Halloween Decorating Contest I can’t wait to see what District 6 has to offer in the decorating contest. I will be going around District 6 and checking out all the great decorates homes. Visit SantaClaraCA.gov/Halloween to enter your home in the 2024 contest. Community Engagement Meetings with Santa Clara Police During National Night out this year residents asked me about neighborhood community engagement meetings with Santa Clara Police. Currently I have attended some of these community engagement meetings with Santa Clara police at some of our local apartment complexes in which I might have met some of you there. If your neighborhood association, your block, or apartment/ condo community would like these type of neighborhood police relations meetings please reach out to me at abecker@ SantaclaraCA.gov or my cell 408-312-1869 as well as crimeprevention@SantaclaraCA.gov. Proposed Drive-Thru Starbucks at 3575 Stevens Creek Blvd. Planning Commission Meeting Attention District 6 constituents and South of Forest Neighborhood. As previously mentioned in my prior newsletters that there is a proposed Starbucks project in southern District 6 on Stevens Creek and Harold. Currently the project has a tentative date of Oct. 23, 2024 with the Planning Commission. There have been prior community meetings about the project on Nov. 13, 2023 and April 2, 2024 seen in links below. Community members are encouraged to express their support or opposition. • Virtual Community Meeting 1: Nov. 13, 2023 • Virtual Community Meeting 2: April 2, 2024 District 6 Eats- Eatery of the Month: Omee J Fusion Sushi Bar & Grill "Eatery of the Month” highlights an eatery for the Month in District 6. Times have been tough for all of us and with inflation our small businesses right here in our district are feeling the effects too. So, highlighting a place to grub out in District 6 would not only help our small business community but satisfy your appetite. There is a taste for everything here in Santa Clara’s District 6. For October, I selected Omee J Fusion Sushi Bar & Grill located at 4477 Stevens Creek Blvd. I first visited Omee J when restaurants opened back up to the public in 2021 following the height of the pandemic. The modern decor, moody lighting and the sushi artists craft an extensive list of local rolls that are exceptional. They have dine- in and to-go options. My favorites at Omee J are; “Salmon Teriyaki Bento” and “Moonlight” and “Bay Love” . Santa Clarans should make an order at this great District 6 Eatery.

The proposed new bikeway facilities are based on recommendations from the City of Santa Clara Bicycle Plan and may include lane reductions and/or parking removal There will be several opportunities for community input through multiple public outreach activities, including project meetings and online surveys. Visit SantaClaraCA.gov/BikePedProjects for more information. Imagine A Day Without Water: Oct. 17 Nearly a million Californians lack access to safe drinking water. This Oct. 17, commit to keeping our drinking water clean:

1. Go organic in the garden. Minimize synthetic fertilizers that contaminate soils, harming people, plants and wildlife. Organics support healthy ecosystems. 2. Use plant-based products. Petroleum-based soaps and cleansers damage aquatic ecosystems. Renewably resourced plant-based products biodegrade naturally, having minimal environmental impact.

Keep our Drinking Waters Clean

3. Avoid PFAS. Toxic “forever chemicals” show up in water repellant and non-stick products, food packaging, cleaning products and most types of artificial turf To date, Santa Clara has not detected PFAS in our water supply. Minimizing PFAS products decreases their potential to leach into our drinking water. 4. Drink Santa Clara Water. Reduce plastic pollution that contaminates our community and environment by switching to tap water. Visit SantaClaraCA.gov/WaterQuality for more information.

$25,000 Energy Efficiency Grants

Silicon Valley Power understands the economic pressures on its customers due to inflation and rising energy costs. To help financially vulnerable customers, the utility offers a Financial Rate Assistance Program (FRAP) to provide a discount on the electric bill for all eligible customers. The program is tiered to provide the most help to customers who earn the least amount of money. Discounts range from 25–40%, depending on income eligibility. To apply for the Financial Rate Assistance Program, visit SiliconValleyPower.com/Assist. For questions, call our Energy Conservation Hotline at 408-244-SAVE (7283). Santa Clara Water - 130 Years Strong

Santa Clara began delivering water to the community in 1894. In celebration of their 130th year, Water & Sewer Utilities branded their high-quality drinking water, showcasing the new look at the recent Art & Wine Festival. Their eye-catchingly oversized Water Quality Report Card detailed Federal and State standards that the City’s water surpasses, while the new brand logo attracted desirable attention and questions. The Tap Water Express provided water to attendees, who were encouraged to continue hydrating locally by choosing Santa Clara’s superb tap water over less frequently tested bottled water of unknown origins. The Department continually advocates for sustainability in multiple ways; switching from bottled to tap water tops their list in protecting our planet from plastic pollution. Visit SantaClaraCA.gov/WaterQuality for more information.
