Everyone in the state of Washington is required to have car insurance if they own a vehicle. In a time when savings are closely tied to the bottom line of every family’s household, the chance to lower your insurance costs is likely a trap. Underinsured and uninsured motorists are the most heartbreaking stories in our office. Aside from the nuances of the law, every personal injury case has two components: medical treatment and insurance coverage. A personal injury case doesn’t exist if someone isn’t injured. Likewise, suppose a driver is underinsured or uninsured, and they do sustain a bodily injury. In that case, the ability for medical providers to give necessary treatment is not only compromised, but it may also be non-existent.

Maria was driving south on the 405 next to a commercial 18-wheeler. She didn’t see the impact of the truck crossing into her lane. She just saw the front end of her vehicle change directions while she heard the sound of her car crush beneath the weight of a tire. Her front end continued to turn, colliding with several vehicles until it smashed against the freeway barrier. The last thing she saw was concrete. Maria gained consciousness a week later while at a local hospital. She has difficulty remembering things in the months since the wreck; she gets headaches at work and inexplicably snaps at her family. She had never heard of a traumatic brain injury. The treatment for her broken bones and the hospital stay took

every dollar of her policy which was the state minimum of $25,000. The other driver had the same. Her medical bills total over $500,000. The best advice I’ve ever heard regarding insurance was: buy insurance from a reputable company, from an agent you trust, and more than you think you need.
