2025 CIITY TOURNAMENT
Families, Students & Community Members, As we gear up for the highly anticipated Bank of Springfield 2025 City Tournament , I am thrilled to extend a warm welcome on behalf of Springfield Public Schools District 186. Over the next four days, we will come together to celebrate not only the remarkable athleticism of our student-athletes but also the incredible musical, cheer, and dance performances, community and school spirit, and unwavering school pride that define this event. The Bank of Springfield Center once again serves as the proud home of this beloved tradition, steeped in rich history and unforgettable memories. For many of us, City Tournament moments have become cherished stories and we look forward to creating even more positive memories this year. I want to express heartfelt gratitude to everyone working tirelessly behind the scenes—our administrators, athletic directors, coaches, volunteers, and countless others—who make this event possible. We extend our deepest gratitude to our community sponsors who help make this event happen. Your contributions help create a memorable experience for all. I also want to thank our media partners for sharing the excitement and ensuring our community stays connected. As we revel in the energy and thrill of the competition, let us exemplify good sportsmanship and embrace values of respect, integrity, and fair play. Each of you contributes to the vibrant atmosphere of this tournament, and we encourage everyone to cheer with positivity and support every participant as we remain in the designated seating areas. Best of luck to our student participants and athletes! Your dedication and perseverance have brought you here, and we can’t wait to see the talent, sportsmanship, and teamwork you bring to the court. Let the games begin!
Warm regards, Superintendent Jennifer Gill
Special Thanks to the talented Riley Stender, Lanphier High School student, for the stunning front cover artwork!
Tournament Expectations
Please remember that the Girls & Boy’s Basketball City Tournament this Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at the BOS Center is a school function and all behavior guidelines will be enforced at all times during the City Tournament. Any inappropriate behavior displayed at the City Tournament will result in consequences that will be enforced by the administration of the student’s school. This includes behavior inside the BOS Center, as well as adjacent to the facility. No unaccompanied minors will be allowed entry into the City Tournament. All K-8th grade students should be with an adult who is responsible for their actions and monitors their movement during the games. They should be sitting watching the games and limit walking around unless using the restroom or visiting the concession stand. Do not drop off students to attend without an adult - they will not be allowed entry. All spectators will enter through weapons detection systems at the BOS Center. For safety and speed of entry, we strongly encourage spectators not to bring bags of any kind. Bags that are no larger than 4” x 6” x 1.5” are permitted after visual inspection. Clear bags are preferred. Athletes participating in the contest are allowed to bring their sports equipment bags (i.e. cheerleading bag, poms bag etc.). In addition, we want to remind everyone that students are expected to wear clothing that does not include lewd, obscene, or vulgar language or representation of anything illegal. Large chains or wallet chains are not allowed. Caps may be worn, but the bill must remain facing forward. No seating will be allowed on the balcony. Therefore, no spectators are allowed in the balcony area.
Students are prohibited from standing on the seats at any and all times. Middle school students are not allowed in the high school cheering sections.
Anyone leaving the main court floor with approximately five or fewer minutes remaining in the last game will be required to exit the building. Also, at this time, all individuals in the lobby area will be asked to leave the building. No one will be allowed to return to the main court or inside the building at this time. All spectators are expected to remain seated during all games. Anyone standing or roaming about will be asked to sit in the stands. All side doors must remain closed. Anyone allowed entry through a side door will be instructed to leave. Admittance will be allowed before half-time of the final game of the evening. Doors will close after half of the final game with no entry occurring after the game. Failing to abide by the City Tournament expectations may result in you being escorted from the BOS Center. If you are escorted from the BOS Center, you will not be allowed to return to any future games of the tournament. This is a school event. We want to support this fun family activity in our community. Any incidence of inappropriate behavior, poor sportsmanship, or physical / verbal altercations will not be tolerated. Removal from the main floor of the BOS Center will occur and possible consequences for behavior through the appropriate school will be considered. Adults and students run the risk of being banned from future sporting events as well. This may include notification of local law enforcement who will be monitoring the games nightly. The second game, on Wednesday and Thursday, will conclude at approximately 9:15 p.m. The 4th game on Friday will conclude at approximately 10:15 pm. The 4th game on Saturday will conclude at approximately 9:45 pm. Please make sure your ride, if needed, is available to pick you up at that time. Most importantly, we hope you and your friends have fun and enjoy the City Tournament this week. The tournament should prove to be very exciting, safe, and enjoyable for fans of all ages!

From the Office of Mayor Misty Buscher Letter from the Mayor-202 5 C ity Tournament
Greetings Students, Coaches, and Supporters:
As Mayor of the City of Springfield, I am honored to extend my best wishes to all the schools participating in the annual City Basketball Tournament and to celebrate the spirit of unity that makes our community so extraordinary. This year, alongside the excitement of the tournament, we recognize District 186 for the initiative of Unity Day. On this special day, students from all District 186 high schools will unite for "Universal Unity," an event focused on strengthening community ties through collaboration and learning. The space theme of this year serves as a reminder that we are all part of the same universe, connected by common goals and aspirations. To the athletes representing Sacred Heart-Griffin High School, Springfield Southeast High School, Springfield High School, and Lanphier High School: take to the court with determination and pride. Just as Unity Day supports teamwork and connection, this tournament embodies the values of sportsmanship and camaraderie. Your hard work and dedication are a testament to the strength of our schools and the bright future of Springfield. I encourage everyone attending these events to support our students with enthusiasm and positivity. Let’s create an atmosphere that uplifts and inspires, whether cheering from the stands or standing side-by-side during Unity Day projects. To the families, mentors, and educators who guide and encourage our youth, thank you for your support. Your efforts build not just individual successes but the strong, connected community we are proud to call Springfield. As the tournament unfolds, I wish each team the best of luck. May you play with passion, determination, and most importantly, enjoy every moment of this thrilling event.
Sincerely,
Misty Buscher Mayor
