President Faye Brings Senegal’s Tech Ambitions to Silicon Valley I had the honor of greeting President Bassirou Diomaye Faye when he recently visited the United States and stopped in Santa Clara, in his quest to strengthen partnerships and explore opportunities for Senegal’s digital transformation. He was

accompanied by high-ranking officials, including the Minister of Communication, Telecommunications, and Digital Economy, and the Minister of Finance. During their visit, which included Nvidia’s global headquarters in Santa Clara, they met entrepreneurs, visited tech companies, and met with representatives from academia to discuss future collaborations and initiatives to support Africa’s economic and technological growth.

President of Senegal Bassirou Diomaye Faye

Bassirou Diomaye Faye is the newly elected president of Senegal, marking a significant moment in the nations’s political history. His rise to power was dramatic, transitioning from being a political prisoner to becoming the head of state in a matter of weeks. His victory in the 2024 elections, securing over 54% of the vote, made him the first opposition candidate to win a first-round election in Senegal since its independence in 1960. The election also came on the heels of widespread protests demanding political reform and transparency. His significance to Senegal today lies in his commitment to anti-corruption and economic reform. His election has inspired a sense of pride and hope among young Senegalese voters. October Safety Spotlight: Protecting Our Community Together

October is National Fire Prevention Month, making it the perfect time for our community to revisit safety and preparedness practices. As the cooler weather approaches and we begin using heaters and fireplaces, it’s crucial to ensure our smoke detectors are functioning properly and our emergency plans are up to date. The City of Santa Clara is committed to promoting safety for all residents, and we encourage everyone to take advantage of local resources like free safety inspections and emergency preparedness workshops. In addition, with Halloween just around the corner, let’s also keep our neighborhoods safe for our youngest residents. This means being mindful of

traffic safety, keeping walkways well-lit, and reporting any suspicious activity. Together, we can make Santa Clara a safe and welcoming community for everyone.

In closing, I encourage everyone to embrace the spirit of the season – take a stroll through our beautiful parks, enjoy the vibrant colors of autumn, and don’t hesitate to reach out as I look forward to hearing from you. Let’s continue to work together to make Santa Clara not just a place to live, but a community we all love to call home. Wishing you a warm and wonderful Fall Season! Best,

Mayor Lisa M. Gillmor
