HAVE A LAUGH

Practicing Safety Into the New Year

No-Bake Peanut Butter Snowballs

All is merry and bright … until it isn’t! The holidays are here, which calls for celebration and fun — safely, of course!

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), around Christmas and New Year of 2018, 285 preventable drunk driving fatalities occurred. While the tragedy of these deaths is felt year- round, their strong prevalence around the holidays is alarming. Similarly, around the holiday season, police nationwide experience an uptick in calls for service related to domestic abuse and violence. This can occur for many reasons, including personal stress, financial stress, increased social activities, and the misuse of alcohol. We can all take extra care and precaution to be sure that we keep ourselves, friends, family, and loved ones safe. If you are planning to host or attend an event or gathering this holiday season, make wise decisions and have a plan for safe and reliable transportation home. If you are the designated driver, commit 100% to sobriety and avoid distractions to ensure you are looking out for potential drunk drivers. Doing so could save the lives of yourself, your passengers, and everyone else sharing the road. If you find yourself in a heated situation with a family member or friend, do what you can to remove yourself and/or others from that situation before it becomes unsafe or violent. As we close out 2022 and open up a new chapter for 2023, practice safety in your celebrations and make it a point to keep yourself and your loved ones safe and healthy into the new year!

This year-round treat is the perfect dessert for any holiday party. Since you don’t need to worry about a hot oven, it’s a great recipe to make with the whole family — including the little ones!

INGREDIENTS

• •

1 cup powdered sugar

• •

3 tbsp softened butter

1/2 cup creamy peanut butter

1 lb white chocolate candy coating

1. Line a cookie sheet with parchment or wax paper. 2. In a medium bowl, combine powdered sugar, peanut butter, and softened butter. Mix until evenly combined. 3. Shape the mixture into 1-inch balls and place them on the lined cookie sheet. Chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes or until firm. 4. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt white chocolate candy coating in increments of 30 seconds, stirring occasionally until smooth. 5. In the same bowl, use skewers to dip peanut butter balls into the chocolate before placing them on a lined cookie sheet so they can harden. 6. Chill until ready and then serve! DIRECTIONS
