Est. 1972 BEASTROM Gelbvieh and Balancer Genetics RANCH Selling 65 Bulls Plus, 20 Open & Bred Heifers

46th Annual Bull Sale February 23, 2026 1:00 CST • Pierre, SD

Monday, Feb. 23 • 1:00 p.m. CST 65 Bulls & 20 Heifers Sell • At the Ranch: 20453 Cendak Road, Pierre, SD Est. 1972 BEASTROM RANCH 46th Annual Gelbvieh and Balancer Bull Sale

This year’s sale offering has exceeded the goals we have set for our program. The bulls are uniform in type regardless of breed percentage—thick, long-spined, easy fleshing, and exceptional on their feet and legs. The 2025 calf crop was weaned in mid-August due to drier pasture conditions and has excelled on our feed program. Bulls are developed on a high-fiber, roughage- based ration with ample space to exercise and structural longevity in mind. Our natural calves were raised on rugged pastures without supplementation and returned with excellent weaning weights. Our embryo transfer program remains a key focus, allowing us to accelerate our most productive genetics while continuing to utilize our strongest cow families. We are grateful to work with Brett Stevens, who provides outstanding care to our ET calves from calving through weaning. At weaning, ET calves are brought to the ranch, integrated with the natural calves, and managed together as a group. You will notice a few additional lots in this year’s offering, as we have opened our replacement pens to offer a select group of females from the heart of our program. These females represent our highest- performing genetic lines, with several being maternal or full sisters to bulls in the sale. We invite you to stop by the ranch prior to the sale to view the bulls and visit with us about your program’s needs. The cow herd is also available for viewing if you would like to see our operation in its entirety. We look forward to seeing you on February 23rd at the ranch,

Greetings! Welcome to our 46th Annual Gelbvieh and Balancer Bull Sale. We would like to thank our past customers for your continued support and confidence in our program over the years. Your friendship has meant the world to us. We look forward to continuing to be your source for performance-driven, maternally backed, commercially focused Gelbvieh and Balancer genetics. We believe Gelbvieh and Balancer genetics produce the hardest working females in the beef industry. The executive director of the American Gelbvieh Association, Harrold Bertz, recently toured the Meat Animal Research Center in Clay Center, Nebraska, and returned with information that comes as no surprise to Gelbvieh users—Gelbvieh cows produce big calves. Research published in the Journal of Animal Science confirmed that Gelbvieh-sired females produce 22.7 more pounds of calf at weaning than any other British or Continental breed when mated across breed combinations. In today’s market, that equates to nearly $100 per head on 550-pound steers, based on unbiased, peer-reviewed research. Our focus is building the optimal female that can thrive in any environment. We place maximum emphasis on maternal traits including udder quality, fertility, fleshing ability, and longevity. Our cattle run in large pastures, traveling long distances for water and climbing steep elevations, making structural soundness and efficiency essential. The sires we utilize are selected to produce high-performing, fertile, easy- fleshing cattle that are problem-free and profitable, with the goal of taking the guesswork out of the equation for our customers.

Indexes weigh traits based on their importance to a producer’s bottom line by using a trait’s economic and genetic value. Indexes are a good way to put selection emphasis on traits that are economically relevant. Feeder Profit Index™ (FPI™) : Envisioned as a completely terminal index, FPI assumes all calves are marketed as finished beef carcasses priced on a value-based grid. Thus, it shouldn’t be used in production scenarios where replacements are kept from these matings. The new FPI formulation more precisely weights Economically Relevant Traits (ERTs) available for selection, including the key carcass traits of Carcass Weight (CW), Ribeye Area (REA), and Dry Matter Intake (DMI) that were not included in the original formulation. The new FPI also weights Fat Thickness (CFAT), post-weaning Average Daily Gain (ADG), and Calving Ease Direct (CED). Carcass value determined by carcass weight, quality, and yield grade influencing traits accounts for approximately 75% of the index as principal revenue drivers. Dry Matter Intake (DMI) captures differences in expected costs to the terminal carcass endpoint. Total Profit Index (TPI) : Combining replacement female retention from the herd with carcass endpoint for marketed surplus heifers and all steers, TPI balances both maternal and terminal selection criteria. Because of the challenges faced by commercial cattlemen by the antagonisms in selection for this production scenario, TPI includes the largest and most diverse set of EPDs in the model, including carcass traits as the primary revenue drivers with cow Mature Weight (MWT), Stayability (STAY) and Dry Matter Intake (DMI) as cost drivers.

EPD Definitions: Listed below are the definitions of American Gelbvieh Association EPDs and the units in which they are published. Maternal traits Calving ease direct (CED) : Percent of unassisted births of a bull’s calves when he is used on heifers. A higher number is favorable, meaning better calving ease. This EPD can be vital to a rancher looking to decrease the amount of calves pulled in his herd. Milk (Milk) : The genetic ability of a sire’s daughters to produce milk expressed in pounds of weaning weight. Calving ease maternal (CEM) : Represented as percent of unassisted births in a sire’s first-calving daughters. A higher number represents more favorable calving ease. This EPD is important to a rancher’s bottom line because it predicts which animals produce daughters with a genetic pre- disposition to calve unassisted as heifers. Stayability (STAY) : Predicts the genetic difference, in terms of percent probability, that a bull’s daughters will stay productive within a herd to at least six year of age. The stayability EPD is one of the best measures currently available to compare a bull’s ability to produce females with reproductive longevity. Docility (DOC) : Is reported as a percentage, with higher numbers indicating a higher percent of offspring receiving a disposition score of 1 (docile). Scrotal circumference (SC) : Predicts the difference, in centimeters, of scrotal circumference of an animal’s male offspring at yearling compared to the SC of other animals’ male offspring.

Growth traits Birth weight (BW) : Predicts the difference, in pounds, for birth weight of the calf. Weaning weight (WW) : Predicts the difference, in pounds, for weaning weight (adjusted to age of dam and a standard 205 days of age). This is an indicator of growth from birth to weaning. Yearling weight (YW) : Predicts the expected difference, in pounds, for yearling weight (adjusted to a standard 365 days of age). This is an indicator of growth from birth to yearling. Carcass traits Yield grade (YG) : Differences in yield grade score, which is a predictor of percent retail product. Smaller values suggest that progeny will have a better lean to fat ratio. Carcass weight (CW) : Differences in pounds of hot carcass weight, adjusted to an industry standard age endpoint. Ribeye area (CREA) : Differences in ribeye area in inches between the 12th and 13th rib. Greater ribeye areas are preferable. Marbling (MARB) : Predicts the differences in the degree of marbling within the ribeye as expressed in marbling score units. Greater marbling numbers are preferable and are an indicator of higher carcass quality grades. Efficiency traits Dry matter intake (DMI) : The genetic difference in pounds of expected average daily dry matter intake of progeny. Indexes Indexes are tools that allow producers to select for several EPDs at once, making selections more

Productively, her progeny count is 21. Eight of those have been females that we have added into our herd or sold to another breeder. Twelve bulls have been sold over the years in our bull sale, and have an average weaning weigh of 770 lbs., with a ratio of 104. Three of her sons have gone on to become AI sires utilized within the industry. You will find her influence throughout this catalog. Lots 22-25 are full ET brothers out of the young donor dam BEA 0610D. She comes from the heart of our ET program and is a female we have been utilizing to add more Gelbvieh genetics to our sale line up. She is a moderate made, easy-fleshing female that is flexible on the go. Her progeny count is up to 8 head in her first two years of production. She will have 7 of those calves in this year’s catalog. This set of purebred bulls offers a little something for everyone but each of them excels phenotypically and genotypically. You will also find their full ET sisters as Lots 77 and 78. Lot 22 - GE-EPDs • 500N is the largest framed of the flush brothers. He is thick made, well balanced, and has been a standout all year. He has gained well with a large weaning-to-yearling spread. His EPDs rank in the top 2% for CW; top 3% for FPI; top 4% for TPI; top 10% for WW, YW, STAY, and MARB, and top 15% for $GAIN. Lot 23 - GE-EPDs • 505N is a more moderate bull that is thick-ended and smooth in his overall make up, having a clean sheath and added volume. His EPDs rank in the top 4% for FPI and TPI; top 5% for CW; top 10% for MARB; top 15% for BW and CEM; top 20% for $GAIN and STAY; and top 20% for WW and YW.
