- & 5 5 3 & 4 r - & 5 5 & 3 4 LETTER: MASKING UP ISSUE To the editor:
DOORS NOT OPEN YET AT CR LIBRARY
What on earth was your editorial staff thin- king when they published an ill-informed and dangerous diatribe against the necessary measures being taken to protect us all from COVID 19? The Letter to the Editor («Stop the tyranny» Vision July 15) was written by a person named Stéphane J. Lalonde. The views expressed by M. Lalonde, unopposed by the editor and hence see- mingly endorsed by your organization, are clearly damaging to public safety and only encourage COVID 19 deniers like himself to promote their views which, it allowed to become common place, will endanger the health and safety of our society. In addition, the writer, who presumably has no medical training or expertise, since he mentions none, has the hubris to take to task the regional medical officer of health, Dr. Roumeliotis, in what could be construed as a defamatory attack for doing nothing more than what he was hired to do, offering the public the best advice of the medical com- munity to protect ourselves and each other. In passing, he also defames public servants, teachers and politicians, demonstrating his own personal biases and nothing more. At this critical time in the course of the pandemic, when our communities are ten- tatively and cautiously entering phase three of reopening, it is all the more important to
remain vigilant against the kinds of careless attitudes advocated in this letter, not to give them voice. Freedom of speech is only a right when it is exercised without doing harm to our fellow citizens. This letter should never have been published and I trust a retraction by your company will be rapidly issued so that you are not tainted as supporters of such dangerous views.

Anyone who disagrees with the opinion expressed in a letter to the editor is both welcome and encouraged to send their own letter to the editor as a rebuttal.
Public libraries are allowed to reopen now under the provincial government’s Ontario Restart plan to guide the province’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. The Clarence- Rockland Public Library remains closed to public access until staff are able to prepare the premises to meet COVID-19 public health guidelines. The library continues to offer its curbside service for books and other library materials. —photo Gregg Chamberlain

Nous désirons remercier tous ceux qui ont fait des dons ainsi que les commerçants qui nous ont assistés de multiples façons. Nous tenons particulièrement à remercier la Ville de Clarence Rockland pour son soutien continu Since the beginning of Covid-19 members of the community and a small group of existing volunteers worked tirelessly to prepare boxes and make many deliveries weekly, to ensure groceries reached our needy families. We owe them a debt of gratitude .
