MechanoTherapy_Making Moves to Understand Sciatica

EXERC I SE ESSENT I ALS START STRENGTHENING YOUR CORE Brace Marching This exercise is appropriate for anyone who fits into the “extension intolerant” or “rotation intolerant” category for low back pain. While lying on your back with your knees bent, tighten your stomach by drawing in your belly button close to your spine. Slowly raise up one foot a few inches and then set it back down, and continue as if marching for two minutes. Try not tomove your pelvis or back whilemoving your legs. Drawing in your stomach helps to keep your spine from moving. Next, perform the same exercise with your other leg. Repeat 10 times.

Specific exercise prescription is the meat and potatoes at MechanoTherapy. We use a system called Movement Impairment Syndromes to systematically evaluate each patient and develop an exercise program that is unique to their movement pattern. This is important because a medical diagnosis does not inform the patient of how they should move or which exercises they should be doing. Patients with low back pain and/or sciatica get classified as either flexion, extension, rotation, flexion-rotation, or extension-rotation, and each syndrome calls for slightly differentexercises. It isalsonotuncommontobeprescribed different exercises on one leg than the other. We use the Movement ImpairmentSyndromesapproachandcombine it withproperstrengtheningexercises, inordertohelpyouget all of your functional strength back as quickly as possible.
