SOURCE3 The classical sculpture shows the Trojan priest Laocoön and his sons being crushed to death by snakes. The sculpture was rediscovered in a vineyard in Esquiline Hill on 14 January 1506 and had a great impact on Michelangelo.

SOURCE5 Michelangelo Buonarotti’s famous Pietà (meaning ‘pity’). The marble sculpture depicts Mary holding the body of her son Jesus Christ after his crucifixion.

SOURCE4 Moses by Michelangelo, 1515, was influenced by the rediscovered classical sculpture of Laocoön shown in SOURCE3 .
