LESSON 6.1 Overview

INQUIRY QUESTION What were the significant changes to the Americas as a result of the Spanish conquest? In 1492, the most powerful civilisations in the Americas were the Aztecs, Inca and Maya. The Inca people lived in what is now Chile and Peru. The Maya were in eastern Mexico on the Yucatan Peninsula, and the Aztecs lived to the west. The Aztecs and Maya were part of a region called Mesoamerica, known for its temples, architecture and rich history. However, after the Spanish conquest, all three civilisations collapsed, and the Americas changed forever.
