LESSON 9.1 Overview

INQUIRY QUESTION How has the Japanese way of life and the roles and relationships of different groups changed over time? Japan is a nation with a rich heritage and culture, and throughout its history, the Japanese islands have influenced the world. Currently, Japan is one of Australia’s key trading partners for goods such as electronics and precious materials. Throughout different periods, Japan has sought to limit external influences. Presently, citizenship is granted primarily to the children of Japanese citizens. This policy has allowed Japan to maintain and develop its distinctive culture and way of life. Today, Japan is recognised for both its traditional arts, including painting and calligraphy, and its modern innovations.
