10.2.5 An artistic view Artwork gives great insight into both the artist’s feelings and the audience for whom it was created. During Mongol rule, Chinese artists made calligraphy and paintings depicting everyday life, landscapes and famous battles (see SOURCE4 ). Centuries later, some artworks, like the painting in SOURCE5 , show the power of the Mongol army.
SOURCE4 This thirteenth-century artwork depicts Kublai Khan, grandson of Genghis Khan, in a hunting party. This source was created using ink and colour on silk during the Mongol expansion.
