1 The Himalayas Located in Asia, the Himalayas (meaning land of snow ) are the highest mountain range in the world. They extend from Bhutan and southern China in the east, through northern India, Nepal and Pakistan, to Afghanistan in the west. The Himalayas are one of the youngest mountain ranges in the world. The 14 highest mountains in the world — all over 8000 metres above sea level — are all in the Himalayas.
