LESSON 15.1 Overview

INQUIRY QUESTION Why do people move between and within countries, and how are our urban environments changing to provide a sustainable future? People move from one place to another for many reasons, like political, economic, social or environmental factors. Sometimes they have to move quickly, such as in times of emergency, while at other times, they can plan it out. Some moves are forced, and others are by choice. Moving has effects, like more people living in cities. Cities have been around for about 5000 years, and more people have been living in urban areas over time. In 2008, for the first time, more people lived in cities than in rural areas. Megacities have developed across the globe as a result. We will look at why people move, how it affects urbanisation , the pros and cons of living in cities and the increasing need to develop sustainable solutions to the issues that these urban areas face.
