Tune in Illuminations such as SOURCE1 help us imagine what life was like during the Middle Ages. In the foreground, peasants can be seen engaged in various activities on a farm. Many illuminations show scenes of village life, with peasants tending their crops and livestock. For the illustrator, such a scene would have been commonplace, because 90 per cent or more of the medieval population were peasants.
