Slowing down? Don’t let your severe aortic stenosis (heart valve failure) stop you now.
Delaying treatment for your heart valve failure could be a deadly risk. Don’t wait for your severe aortic stenosis, also referred to as heart valve failure, to get worse. By postponing treatment, it could increase your risk of complications. Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is a less invasive way to replace your aortic heart valve without opening the chest. Most people go home the next day, which means more time with your loved ones. It is a choice that patients should discuss with their doctors.

Cleveland Ferguson III, Esq., Editor T he Kappa Alpha Psi ® Journal has been published regularly since 1914. The 34 th Adminis- tration has weathered a historic pandemic and the concomitant supply chain effects. Nevertheless, we have endeavored to capture the most significant events in the context of world affairs, campus activities, and national achievement. The Journal also featured for the first time, double covers, where the front cover provided the lead to Fraternity affairs of the quarter, and the back cover focused on material of historic signifi- cance and singular achievement. While the effects of the pandemic curtailed the chronicling of national, province, and chapter in-person ac- tivities, it did not impede The Journal’s ability to capture the successes of the Fraternity, centennial observances of our chapters, and achievements of our brothers throughout the world. The future is bright for Kappa Alpha Psi and The Journal will continue to capture the living history and achievements of our brothers, chapters and provinces. Here's to continuing to achieve in every field of human endeavor! Yours in the Bond, Cleveland Ferguson III, Esq. Editor

is also a time for members to partici- pate in workshops, attend seminars, and engage in discussions about the future of the Bond. The 2023 Conclave will take place from July 18-23 in Tampa Bay, Florida. The title of this year's event is "Kon- clave on the Bay"; and reflects the return to brighter days ahead where we can celebrate values the fraternity was founded upon and the principles that have guided its growth and suc- cess over the years. There are many reasons why members should attend the Conclave in Tampa. First, it is an opportunity to connect with brothers from across the country. The Conclave is a chance to meet new people, make new friends, and strengthen existing relationships. It is an opportunity to network with other Kappa members and build con- nections that can be beneficial both personally and professionally. In addition to networking, the Conclave offers a range of educa- tional and informative workshops and seminars. These sessions cover a variety of topics, from leadership development to community service initiatives. Members can learn new skills, gain knowledge about the fraternity's history and traditions, and get inspired to make a positive impact in their communities. Another reason to attend the Conclave is the entertainment. The event features a range of social activi- ties, including parties, concerts, and other fun events. This is a chance to let loose and have fun with fellow Kappa Alpha Psi members, while also celebrating the fraternity's accom- plishments and looking towards the future. Finally, attending the Conclave is
an opportunity to give back. The fra- ternity has a long-standing tradition of community service and philanthropy, and the Conclave is a chance to par- ticipate in service projects and chari- table initiatives. Members can make a positive impact in the local Tampa community, while also representing the values of Kappa Alpha Psi. The Conclave in Tampa is an event that no member should miss. Take this opportunity to connect with fellow brothers, have fun, and give back. It is the perfect opportunity to live the mantra of the 34 th Administration that promotes Breaking Barriers that divide us and Building Bridges that bind us in perfect unity. It reflects the values that have made Kappa Alpha Psi one of the most respected and admired fraternities across the world. So, mark your calendars for July 18-23 and make plans to attend the Conclave in Tampa. We look forward to seeing you there! ♦♦♦ Opposite page: Visit Tampa Bay and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, previewed the 86 th Grand Chapter Meeting that will be held July 18-23, 2023. 86 TH GCM HOST CHAPTER
The 86 th Grand Chapter Meeting Host C A Brief History
D uring the years following the founding of Kappa Alpha Psi ® , Kappa men began to grow in number throughout the Tampa Bay area. Among those was one Brother Dr. S.E. Johnson who held an organizational meeting at his house in March of 1928. At that meeting, Brother James Hamilton took the lead and laid out the steps to obtaining a charter to establish the Tampa Alumni Chapter. Johnson and Hamilton presented the attending brothers with a letter from the Grand Chapter that authorized them to create an alumni chapter in the city of Tampa. The Tampa (FL) Alumni Chapter was chartered June 11, 1928. The Char- ter Members were James Hamilton, Dr. S.J. Johnson, E.E. Broughton, Dr. R.R. Williams, Dr. L.A. Howell, and S.W. Curtis. Since its chartering the Tampa (FL) Alumni Chapter has remained a vi- able and active chapter in good standing for 95 years. Along the way the chapter has celebrated many accomplishments. For most of its existence the chapter has hosted the Black and White Ball, the chapter’s signature event and the premier organizational formal event in Tampa. In 1972, Tampa Alumni help launch the Zeta Chi Chapter at the University of South Florida, with the initiation of “Undisputed Truth” on May 26, 1972, and the Charter Line “Mas- terpiece” on March 3, 1973. Zeta Chi is now extended to a colony at Saint Leo University. During the early years the chapter met in brother’s homes, before joining with other Greek organizations to create the Greek House which was located on the corner of Spruce Street and Howard Avenue in West Tampa. Thereafter, the brothers utilized the Alpha Kappa Alpha
house until 1998, when the Tampa Diamond Club purchased the Tampa Diamond House located at 3412 E. Lake Avenue. Tampa (FL) Alumni Chapter is one of the largest chapters in the South- ern Province and hosted the Southern Province Council several times, most recently being in 2019. Current and past members of the Tampa Alumni Chapter touch all aspects of the Tampa community.

The Brothers of the Englewood-Teaneck (NJ) Alumni Chapter Congratulate the Brothers of The Tampa (FL) Alumni Chapter as host of the 86th Grand Chapter Meeting
Celebrating 36 years of proudly serving the communities of Englewood, Teaneck and Hackensack in North New Jersey since established in 1987. Brother Colin Edey, Polemarch @etacnupes www.kappasofetac.com
Discuss revitalization, 1st conclave after pandemic, and 50th year Blazer As we progress out of a global pandemic, I would like to express sincere appreciation, gratitude and love to two of our most esteemed and senior Brothers, as well as shoulders of the Erie Alumni Chapter, Brethren Leonard I. Je ff erson and Albert H. Taliaferro, Jr. These two Good Brothers are 50 Year Members, Life Members as well as Charter Members of the Erie Alumni Chapter. It is with great pleasure to bestow appreciation to these two Good Brothers because they were a part of the 1984 establishment as well as the 2022 revitalization of the Chapter. “Celebration of Diamonds of the Erie Alumni Chapter” Open Letter of Gratitude and Appreciation to Brothers Leonard I. Je ff erson and Albert H. Taliaferro, Jr. “Good Brother Leonard I. Je ff erson - Delta Kappa Summer 1961 / Erie Alumni Chapter” Brother Je ff erson was born in Selma, Alabama. He attended Marquette University and was initiated into the Delta Kappa Chapter in the summer of 1961. Brother Je ff erson also attended and played basketball for Gannon College. Brother Je ff erson is a life member and charter member of the Erie Alumni Chapter. Brother Je ff erson was also a Polemarch with the chapter and is a 50 Year Member of the Bond. The Good Brother has been married for over 50 years to his wonderful wife Julia. They have three children (Jody, John and Jerry) and many grandchildren. In addition to his Kappa achievements and family success, Brother “Je ff ” continued to achieve by obtaining his M.B.A degree alongside his illustrious career in the private industry. Brother Je ff erson is always available to fellowship with Brothers. When younger Brothers return to visit he is known to be available to go out to breakfast or just hang out and celebrate that Good Ole Kappa Spirit. Brother Je ff erson is very passionate about Kappa recruitment. His message to younger Nupes is that they should go out and actively bring in new Brothers rather than waiting for guys to come to Kappa! He is very proud of his e ff orts of trying to recruit new members into the Bond! Brother Je ff erson now enjoys spending time with his family in Erie. “Good Brother Albert H. Taliaferro, Jr. - Delta Lambda Spring 1970 / Erie Alumni Chapter” Brother Taliaferro was born and raised in Philadelphia. He graduated from Germantown High School, attended St. Paul College and was initiated into the Delta Lambda Chapter in the spring of 1970 as a member of the “Fabulous Five”. After college Brother Taliaferro enrolled into the Army. Brother Taliaferro is a life member and charter member of the Erie Alumni Chapter as well as a 50 Year Member of the Bond. The Good Brother has been married 50 years to his wonderful wife Jacqueline with two beautiful daughters Keasha and Janai. Brother Taliaferro had an illustrious career in the private industry in Erie working for GE in leadership positions in the Þnancial and human resources area. Besides serving as Polemarch, Brother Taliaferro has served in many o ffi cer roles in the chapter. Brother Taliaferro was also instrumental with the planning of the Red and White Balls. The Good Brother’s passion for Kappa which is also his message to younger Nupes is the continuous e ff ort towards achievement personally and providing development opportunities for others, especially the youth. One of his most memorable Kappa moments was during the chartering of the Erie Alumni Chapter. He and a group of Brothers identiÞed a Brother they never met who was away from the ÒfratÓ for many years. After a visit to his home they explained to him that they needed him in the Bond in order to get ten members to qualify for an alumni chapter. He agreed and the group of Brothers “kollaborated” and paid his necessary fees and the Brother was reclaimed back into the Bond! Lastly but not least, the Good Brother is grounded in faith. He’s been a member of a church wherever he’s resided, sang in the choir and served on trustee boards. He now enjoys spending time with his family in Charlotte. He now enjoys spending time with his family in Charlotte.
Here’s to Brothers Je ff erson and Taliaferro - a Kappa journey well traveled! “On behalf of these two Good Brothers I say Yo and Kongratulations to the Tampa Alumni Chapter and Hosting Committee of the 2023 86th Grand Chapter Meeting and Konclave in Tampa Bay, Florida” Enjoy the Sip of the Loving Cup - Phi Nu!
