The Speaking section format Before taking the test, it’s essential to know what the Speaking section looks like, how it works, and the types of questions it includes . This way, you can focus entirely on answering the questions instead of figuring out the format during the test . Activity 1.2 Review the information that follows . It outlines the different types of Speaking tasks in the TOEFL iBT, including: • The nature of the task (e .g ., Independent or Integrated) • What you’ll need to do (e .g ., express an opinion, summarize, etc .) • Time limits for preparation and speaking As you study each type of task, write down a few notes in the spaces provided, summarizing the main points about what is expected for each task . Pay close attention to the sample questions included for each type of task . These examples will give you a clear idea of what to expect. There are two types of speaking tasks: the Independent task (also called the Paired Choice task) and the Integrated task . Task 1 is an Independent task.
