• Practice organizing ideas in outline form. • Learn how to directly answer the question.

Introduction The Independent task allows 15 seconds to prepare and 45 seconds to speak. The short preparation time is meant to mimic real-life spontaneous conversations. With practice, you’ll become faster and more efficient in organizing your thoughts. Application Timing For the Independent task, you’ll have 15 seconds to prepare and 45 seconds to speak. This short prepa- ration time mirrors real-life speaking situations, where you often need to think quickly to respond. With practice, you’ll be able to generate and organize ideas faster. Activity 2.1 Practice thinking of reasons for simple opinions . For example, if the topic is “Reasons spring is the best season”, you could say “the weather is pleasant, flowers are blooming, and it’s perfect for outdoor activities .” Now, try it yourself. For each topic below, spend 15 seconds thinking of 2-3 reasons and then practice saying them aloud.

Application

The Independent Task The Independent task questions will ask you to choose between two alternatives or possibilities . Your main task is to make a clear choice and explain it using reasons, supported by details and examples.
