Introduction This lesson will focus on reviewing the Speaking skills learned in the last lessons (Speaking 5 and Speaking 6), with the aim of improving overall speaking fluency.
Application
Fluency Practice You will use an Integrated task (Task 2) to practice repeating a conversation between two students at a natural pace, paying particular attention to pauses and connected words, and pacing . Activity 7.1 1 . For context, read the letter (below) to a campus newspaper. This is the letter the students in the conversation are discussing. 2. Now take a few minutes to read the transcript of the dialogue silently. The two students are discussing the letter to their school’s paper about allowing laptops in class.
Laptops in the Classroom
Allow Laptops in Class Though most of us own laptop computers, we are currently not allowed to use them during class. I think this policy should be changed . Since most of us type faster than we write by hand, taking notes on a computer would be quicker and easier, so we could pay more attention to professors’ lectures . Also, since laptop computers have Internet access, professors could direct students to view Web sites with useful information while lectures are going on. They could look up useful facts and background information on a topic or view different photographs or illustrations of something the professor is describing. This would help students gain a more complete understanding of lecture topics. Sincerely, Jodie Smith
