She also completed specialized training in Graston Technique and is a qualified Graston Technique Provider. Prior to becoming a physical therapist, she worked as a certified sport massage therapist for5years,specializing indeepsoft tissue treatment, andworking with professional athletes ranging from our local AVP beach volleyball players to NBA and MLB players. Born and raised in the South Bay, Dr.Thomson played competitive sports all her life. She competed in softball at the collegiate level and continues to participate in local recreational adult sporting leagues. Dr. Thomson became interested in physical therapy after completing an extensive courseof therapy as a teenager to rehabilitatea complicated ankle fracture sustained while playing soccer. “I came here with a pretty serious knee issue that limited me from doing almost all physical activity. After the consultation and suggested therapy by the therapists, I can now get back to the physical activities I so much enjoy and get my life back. The staff was so helpful and encouraging. They are all professional, personable and very knowledgeable. I listened to their instruction and did what they told me to do on my own time. It really paid off as my knee issue has greatly improved and I can look forward to doing many activities I could not do before coming here. Most importantly, it has kept me from getting worse and possibly having surgery and for that I am very grateful to the entire staff. I highly recommend Peak Orthopedic to everyone in need of any physical therapy.“ - Robert Trevino Dr.Thomson’sphysical therapy training largely focused on manual therapy. Dr. “I can now get back to the physical activities I so enjoy and get my life back.”

BENEFITS OF MASSAGE THERAPY Even the most fit and well-trained human body has its limits. Those limits are set by your muscles that move your joints and give you the strength to perform specific tasks. Your muscles are made up of many small, thin fibers that contract on command, working together to mobilize entire large muscle groups. These muscles are attached to your bones by connective tissues called tendons, enabling them to actually move your body parts. Tougher bands of connective tissue called ligaments connect bones to other bones for added stability. These tissues (and other physical systems) are covered by yet another connective tissue called fascia. Any and all of these soft tissues can be damaged by stresses. Micro- tears in the tendons can lead to painful inflammatory problems such as tennis or golfer’s elbow. Stretched ligaments leave you with debilitating sprains. Distortions or adhesions (areas of scar tissue) in the fascia can severely limit motion in other tissues. You may develop these problems because your soft tissues were too tight beforehand. Massage therapy is highly recommended for the treatment of tension and stress in the muscles and joints, either as a result of tension buildup from mental stress or from physical challenges.

Massage therapy is proven to: • Alleviate tension • Reduce pain • Improve flexibility and range of motion • Alleviate tension headaches • Reduce depression and anxiety • Boost your immune system

Please contact Peak Orthopedic PhysicalTherapy to learn more about the different types of massage and how this therapy method may best be incorporated into your health and wellness routine.
