Dear Brother Grand Polemarch Battles: Can a man in his lifetime distinguish himself from his peers purely by his deeds? I answer this very difficult question in the affirmative by writing about the sacrifices of one man I know well. I write about dedication, loyalty, moral fortitude and the affability I find in the likeness of John F. Burrell. You have before you a resume or book of knowledge assembled by the Southern Province. As you know, John is a life member of the fraternity and exhibits his commitment to the Bond having made membership available through the ritualistic order of the fraternity as a caretaker of the membership intake process since 2003. Thus he is dedicated. He understands what it means to be a good Kappa and he has demonstrated his loyalty to Grand Polemarchs and brothers throughout the fraternity by staying on task and changing the manner in which we bring men into Kappa consistent and relevant with the times. The fraternity has designated the Elder Watson Diggs Award for men in Kappa who demonstrate unpretentiousness and are genuine when dealing with others. Without reservation and decidedly, JFB is authentic, trustworthy and principled. I am not alone in expressing my judgement of his passion and suitability to becoming an honored member of the closely held circle of men who wear the Elder Watson Diggs Award. John in my view is without fault the type of man to receive favorable consideration before the Achievement Commission. I urge your consideration of him as a recipient of the Elder Watson Diggs Award.
