It gives me great pleasure to write this letter in support of the petition of Brother John F. Burrell for the Elder Watson Diggs Award. Having known John since his days as a member of the Kappa Iota Chapter he has never once wavered from his commitment to Kappa. His work as the National MIOP/MOIP Chairman (2003-2011) is a true testament to that. John also has served as the Southern Province MOIP, Achievement, and Province Planning Chairman. John has also served as the National MTA Chairman and Interim Executive Director. John is currently as you know serving as the Fraternity ’ s Executive Director. These are just a few examples of his true lead by example mentality. John has also excelled in his chosen field of human endeavor. He was one of the first African American head athletic trainers in the National Football League. He has served as head or assistant trainer for the Washington Redskins, Jacksonville Jaguars, Shreveport Pirates, Omaha Knighthawks, and Alcorn State University. He is a man worthy of great accolades for his numerous achievements in Kappa and his community. When you are in the presence of Brother Burrell, you know that he has great vision and that he carries a great love for our fraternity. Many of the leaders of our organization have often made the statement "offices and awards should seek the individual," this is the case with John F. Burrell. It is my opinion that if Founder Diggs himself were able to present the award that bears his name, John F. Burrell would be at the top of his list. Please give him your full consideration.
