5.1.111 Present participants with a scenario in which the lessons and activities are already planned and then provide them with a group of learner profiles in which they need to accommodate different experience levels

5.1.112 Facilitate discussion around how to be adaptable in safety training and what are the limitations

The participants shall:

5.1.113 Discuss and share their experiences as instructors and participants

5.1.114 Work in small groups to analyse scenarios and share solutions

5.1.115 Work in small groups to consider the learners in each group and how to appropriately adjust the teaching

5.1.116 Discuss the limits around adjusting lessons and learning styles within the context of safety. When is it safe to adapt a lesson and when is it not?

The participants sharing and applying their experiences should be part of most assignments throughout the module

LESSON 21 – LEARNING ACTIVITIES AND TEACHING METHODS

The instructor shall:

5.1.117 Present basic principles of teaching methods in accordance with adult learning principles and training as described in the GWO Taxonomy Framework

5.1.118 Facilitate a discussion about teaching methods involving the participants’ experiences as instructors and learners

5.1.119 Facilitate a group assignment where the participants reflect on which teaching methods have been used in the course so far by the trainers (as well as during the teach-back sessions), and how these fit into the taxonomic levels of the learning objectives and how they facilitate motivation 5.1.120 Introduce the concept of traditional training strategies/teaching methods such as Lecture, Instructor Led Training (ILT) and Guided Discovery, but also the concept of structured methods/systems such as cooperative learning structures

5.1.121 Present basic pedagogical elements (characteristics) of a teaching method covering as a minimum:

a.

the type and/or name of the method

b. the purpose of it highlighting what it enables/promote

c. practical and physical setting requirements and limitations of the method
